George Galloway is a gibbering self-aggrandising cretin, who has absolutely nothing of value to say on any subject whatsoever. A stopped clock may be right twice a day, but George Galloway is wrong on essentially everything, all of the time.

Here is the thing...Iran actively wants a confrontation of some kind with the US, UK or whoever else they fancy. Maybe confrontation is too strong a word, but they definitely like to to play to the media. They want to be at the forefront of the worlds attention, they love it and the way they do it, is through taunting, teasing and putting on political shows for for the world to see and hear about.

The speedboat thing is actually quite a clever bit of political brinkmanship. If the US warship does nothing, Iran (the government and leadership, I mean, not the people) can big it up and strut around to the extremist world as the ones standing up to the great Satan, and if they retaliate by opening fire, they'll be the imperialist superpower using warships to attack 'innocent' patrol boats like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. Whatever they do, or don't do, Iran will play on it. And, as we saw with the British sailors they captured, the facts will mysteriously change to suit the purpose. And it's clever because, in my opinion, the Iranian leadership don't give a fig what the West, be it population or governments, think of it because that isn't the audience they're playing to - their target audience for this sort of prank will believe anything they say and nothing the US says.

Er....no? Apart from the (very few) Zionist nutters, Israelis just want security- and by security I mean no more rockets being fired randomly into their cities, and no more suicide bombers killing people in buses, cafes and nightclubs.

Israel will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons- if they ever get a proper nuclear weapons factory going, the Israelis will almost certainly bomb it (possibly with their own nukes). That doesn't mean that they're spoiling for a fight, it means that they're not prepared to let a country whose leader has repeatedly called for the destruction of their state acquire the means with which to carry out his stated aim.

I am not, of course, suggesting that the Israelis are whiter than white- it's obvious that they're not- but I think they have a right to exist as a country, and consequently they have a right to defend themselves. Iraq never did anything to us, and we still invaded, so it would be rank hypocrisy to condemn the Israelis for proactively trying to stop the people who continually shoot rockets into their cities with the aim of killing and maiming- or, if it should ever come to that, which I sincerely hope it doesn't, to condemn them if they take steps to stop Iran getting the nuke.

I was thinking the same, if the US ships had fired on them, many people would be up in arms calling it typical US aggression. At least now, if Iran tries something similar the US warships would likely at least fire some warning shots sooner, and people would at least see they had been given a chance and fair warning already.

Am i the only one who would of liked to see the seals/SBS raid the patrol boats? Minimal collateral damage, take/kill the people on one of the boats, then return it to iran as a guesture of good faith. No one need know it was you who scuppered it in the first place.
