perhaps its all time for us to turn off our mobile phones, pick up a land line and try to call ourselves...and if when we turn on our moblies we get a msg. saying 'one missed call' then - sweet. if not, too bad, you knew it was yourself ringing - um - yourself anyway so in reality you never missed a call.
    logic.

    problem solved.

I just tried this 10 minutes ago, no SMS as yet... though if it makes a difference I am on the Virgin price promise tariff (my monthly bill is usually around £1.50 hehe) so it might exclude me from Orange-specific services like that.

    Nice one!

Well I tried and although it didn't tell me I had a missed call, 1471 did actually work... even though the phone was off!

Anyone know if this service costs anything or if 1471 calls are free on o2?

Sure is! I've been wondering why companies don't offer this service on mobiles for cases such as when your battery dies and someone calls but doesn't leave a message... all this time it's been working and I never flipping knew!

maybe you have to ring up and get it activated of something? I know it happened all on its own at the start of this thread but perhaps it can be started through the answer phone service??

Very usefull too where they've gone straight through to you're answer phone, waited for it to start recording and then hung up. Orange let you call them back from the answer phone but only if they haven't withheld there number.

How's it cope with Multiple missed calls? I text per missed call?

Sorry for ressurecting an old thread, but I got an SMS this morning on my Orange phone:

"+447973100123 Free missed call alert from Orange. These numbers calls but left no message, [phone number] (7:30)"
Now, I have no idea if this is related, but I started having a problem with my phone yesterday (unable to dial out even with service bars, go straight to voicemail if you called it) and so called Orange last night to report it.

The guy scheduled a SIM update to my phone to try and fix the problem, and this SMS and it was timed at 22:23 - the missed call SMS was at 8:05 this morning.
Maybe that SIM update added this new service? *shrug*

(Unfortunately this didn't fix my problem and I still can't make or receive calls ).

    a phone virus?...
could be you're the only one getting these texts - perhaps some sneaky bugger has found a way to attack your phone?...just a thought. I read somwhere that phones are going ot be the next target of viruses, probably via texts.

Spoke with Orange earlier this morning and the lady I spoke with said there was an "HLR" down for maintenance in my postcode since yesterday, so that was most likely cause of the problem and it was scheduled to be up by 13:30.

My phone is working again already

Oh, and she confirmed the free "missed call" SMS service should send you an SMS for each call made to your number which did not go all the way to become a voicemail whether your phone is out of service or powered off.
