Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Is there a way to make IE7 look more like IE6? Going from IE6 to FF was almost seamless in my experience, but I can't stand the GUI of IE7 to give it a fair shot. I've yet to try FF3 either, but I will soon given that it's supposed to be less memory hungry.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Less memory hungry until it has an issue with the flash plugin from adobe and starts memory leaking FF would constantly hit 300mb+ in memory stakes for me

I really do hope they sort the issues out with FF as I do prefer it over IE7 and Opera but the bugs destroy the experience of the fast browsing.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

    As a web developer, I have FF3, Opera 9.5, IE7 and IE6 installed.

    FF3 is best. Fact.

I have them all to and wish I could use FF, become used to it and the addons I used but at present I can't even get a stable FF3 install to happen as yet :/ This is on the machines at work and home

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

My favourite is Opera 9.1 and my most stable is Foxfire 3. However, now that Grey M@a has pointed me towards IE7 Pro I have just downloaded it and will give it a go.

    Thanks!

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

It's just a shame I am having to use it out of necessity instead of a working firefox. The only addon I missed from firefox was the flv downloader for the likes of youtube etc but it seems IE7Pro comes with a video downloader.

I will be going back to firefox when FF3.1 or 3.0.0.1 lands whichever convention they are running now for version numbering

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Thought I'd bump this up rather than start a new thread.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the ff team were planning to give ff 3.1 the option to disable the 'awsomebar'?

I've looked on the mozillazine forums but all threads about the awsomebar seem to deteriorate into arguments between people who love it and people who hate it, and I can't find a clear answer in the posts already there.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

You can disable the awesome bar by typing about:config in the address bar then search for browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped, click it so it shows false instead of true, then go and clear your history (all of it) restart firefox and the "awesome" bar is gone

I have moved back to FF now as I did a bit of tweaking and got rid of the errors IE7 with IEPro is still installed though if needed.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Yeah, I love IE7Pro. I don't like feeling the need to use a handful of plugins to do things the browser should already, like in Firefox. Needless to say, IE7 is lacking the same stuff, but I can get pretty much all of it rolled into one add-on (IE7Pro). I also love the IE7 UI much more than FF2 or FF3's. The only thing I hated was the menu bar being below the navigation/address bar, but I fixed that with a registry tweak, so now the main menu is back where it belongs: above everything else.

I still don't have any problems with Opera (other than getting used to its different UI layout). Stable and fast, in my experience.

I'll never try Safari. I despise Apple (and have for years), and what really turned my stomach was that security updates for it try to get you to download and install QuickTime and iTunes (they are checked by default). Security updates is *not* the place to push completely unneeded and unrelated apps on people. Even Microsoft isn't *that* bad (I was asked "Would you like Windows Media player 11?" during Windows Updates, and it definitely wasn't listed and checked by default). For shame, Apple!

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

I've been a FF convert from day one and love it. I've not looked back to any version of IE. However, I'm hanging on to FF2 because I can't be bothered with redoing all of my addons and settings again and I'm waiting until FF3 is a bit more mature.

I've yet to try Opera although I'm more interested in it now. Anyway it doesn't matter what browser you use, use what you feel suits you best. Atleast there is a decent choice.

Yeah,. I tried that before going back to FF2 and it still kept tracking data. I cleared history using ccleaner, and the 'clear private data' option in firefox and all was well, thought it'd behave as ff2 did, left it a few weeks, used ccleaner once a week as always, then happened to open my history in a sidebar and there was All the history from the past weeks, obviously not cleaned by ccleaner.

One of the main reasons I moved to FF was you got control over what it kept and what it didn't. Now it seems you don't.

So I'm hoping in 3.1 there's an option to use or not use the awesomebar and all of it's new features. Until then I'll stick with ff2.
