I'm fed up with playing 'click the cross' so....
Which do you use/reccommend?
Firefox
Firefox 1.5 Beta is available now and that has an 'advanced' pop-up blocker which may help more

Maxthon
firefox here too but googletoolbar does one too, my mum uses that at work cos she doesnt believe me that firefox is the best browser EVAR
agreed maxthon or Myie as it used to be called is a great browser with built in popup blockers and loads of other features (apart from using IE as its base of course)
Firefox doesnt block them all for me though...obviously the coders are thinking up new tricks
Twigman
firefox blocks the pops and norton internet security blocks the ads for me
firefox :-) no need to run memory eating other programs (or space and i'm sure privacy invading things like google toolbar) when firefox will do the job nicely
Interesting isn't it
Meaning at the end of the day - HEXUS has a cost to run, and I find it some of our most regular readers block our adverts?
We could offer a solution - where you pay a subscription? Would this work for you guys?
Firefox doens't block all popups for me either... Infact I think my Firefox installation is decidedly shonky as there's a lot it doesn't do properly Oh well.
I don't have it blocking ads on web pages though... No point IMO

You can block pop ups I don't mind about them.
However - the webpage blocking adverts I think is unethical - You don't rip them out of magazines before reading them do you?
We should make HEXUS break if you block them
I'll give an excellent example here of how NOT to use pop-ups.
Go to the sky news websiite.
EVERY time you change the page a big FLASH horrible pop-up appears and takes up quite a bit of room on the page.
*shakes fist* that's how to annoy people with 1 easy sweep - I've now reverted back to BBC News instead of Sky
I only block the google ads, and the ones that highlight text and make them links.Originally Posted by David
I have no problems with banner/tower ads, but ads that break my reading with underlines &/or coloured text annoy the hell outta me.
I don't block banner ads as I find that immoral and sometimes I find a banner ad useful, I don't even really mind pop ups that much it just gets on my nerves when the same ad pops up when you click on another page on the same website...
I especially will not block banner ads as it helps to keep sites like our beloved heXus free, that said a subscription (god forbid) would encourage quality posts for the same reason why in escense conscription produces a lower quality military I'd explain why but its horrifically off topic...
