Update on schedule to LHC black hole doom:

Yesterday, the LHC ops team successfully injected a beam of protons from the SPS (the penultimate accelerator in the LHC accelerator chain) into the LHC, and brought the beam around one sector of the LHC - an eighth of the ring. This was a day ahead of schedule, so all is still looking good for first collisions on the 10th of September

Anyone else think this circuit is just a little too easy? personally i would have designed it like the Nurburgring and given those protons a bit of a challenge!

Well in reality there are a whole load more accelerators before the SPS, so the course looks more like this, with the protons starting at LINAC2 at the bottom:

You're spot on really, because what gets sent around are called proton bunch trains.
