The machine I may be bringing as long as my Rock laptop arrives in one piece is:

Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
2 GB Ram
Nvidia 9800GTX
Roughly 800GB spread over 3 hard drives.

Admitidly it may be slightly overkill/you could get away with less, but for £500/£600 a good gaming rig could be put together.

The good bit is I have half of the pieces, and due to gaming at comparatively low res, I don't need the most awesome machine.
