    Re: Ebay question

Unless they've changed the rules recently, I don't think you do. However, a personal paypal account which doesn't allow credit card payment should be free (it was the last time I looked anyway) to use, if it was the cost of use putting you off.

Paypal is an easy way to pay your auction fees.

Up to you if you use it to take payment I personally prefer Nochex or just accepting cheques.

    Re: Ebay question

I think you do now need a pay pal account to sell on ebay. When i started selling on ebay in 2004 i paid the fees from my bank. But my mother recently started selling on ebay, and she had to set up a paypal account.

    Re: Ebay question

You don't have to use paypal to accept payment. You can specify the types of payment you're willing to accept, I take cheques for example. Paypal will take a cut of any money you receive (sending money to others is free though) which is very annoying.

It's also worth noting that if you transfer less than £50 from your paypal account they will charge you a fee to send the money to your bank account too.

Yep, you have to transfer money from your paypal account to your bank account, which takes about 3 to 5 working days.

Alternatively you can offer buyers to pay via bank transfer, or cheque, but most pay via paypal as it offers buyer protection.

I was just about to edit my post to include that, took a look at the T&C's. Not an improvement, I offer it as a method of payment since a lot of people like to use it but I really feel you should be able to choose not to use it. I hate the fee's. And with ebay final value fee's going up soon (to a massive 9.9%!!!) the whole experience is becoming a bit of a rip off as a seller

    Re: Ebay question

Was going to sell some unwanted stuff on ebay. Seems they are gearing more towards supporting businesses that sell multiple same items and charging me more. Better value in the pictures. Although think Auctiva are useful.

Make sure when your selling items on ebay that if you say in your listing what methods you prefer don't offer reductions for using alternative payments or they will set the dogs on you!

If your buying computer parts often online retailers and forums can be cheaper brand new!

In time when you get special discount codes from ebay, its useful to setup your paypal and ebay email address the same to qualify.

    Hope this helps anyone
