The all new Brain Teaser thread..with knobs on!

And to get the ball rolling...

The Tate Modern decided to introduce a new conceptual art piece. The artist was instructed to create a huge pile of different paintings; periodically pick up one of the paintings and hang it on the wall, then adjust it.

At 11:00, the painting titled "Number 30" was hung.

At 4:00, the painting titled "Number 240" was hung.

At 7:30, the painting titled "Number 315" was hung.

What painting will the artist hang on the wall at 9:20?

Answer: The answer is number 200. It is the angle between the hour hand and the minute hand at those respective times.

What are the largest and smallest 5-digit numbers that satisfy the following conditions?

    • Each digit of the number is a prime number.
    • Each successive pair of digits forms a 2-digit number that is NOT a prime number.
    • Each of the prime digits must appear at least once in the 5-digit number.

    Answer:
    Largest - 35772
    Smallest - 32257

    First one:

Answer: 200 (ish?) Can't be bothered to work it out exactly, but I understand the logic. It's pretty close to that.

    Second one:

Meh. Started looking at it and got bored.

    Edit: Oh...there are answers. lol
Bollocks. Forgot they don't class "1" as prime. That's why I was struggling with rearranging 12357 to make non-prime pairs

Re: The all new Brain Teaser thread..with knobs on!

According to the American Constitution, in order to became President of the United States there are only five pre-requisites. The candidate must:

    1. be at least 35 years old.
    2. be a citizen of the United States.
    3. have resided in the United States for at least 14 years.
    4. have been born in the United States.

    What is the fifth requirement?

ANS: They must also be elected!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
How many legs does an elephant have if you call its trunk a leg?

ANS: 4, calling the trunk a leg doesn't make it so.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
In a dictionary, the verb 'BE' is described as:

    BE [verb]

first and third person singular past indicative: was
second person singular and plural and first and third person plural past indicative: were
    past subjunctive: were
    past participle: been
    present participle: being
first person singular present indicative: am
second person singular and plural and first and third person plural present indicative: are
third person singular present indicative: is
    present subjunctive: be

Therefore you can correctly say 'I am', 'she is', 'you are', etc. Is it ever grammatically correct to say 'I is'?

ANS: Yes, using I as a letter rather than a word
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    How should GHOTI be pronounced?

ANS: Fish (GH as in trouGH, O as in wOmen, TI as in moTIon)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Question 7 on the local pub quiz was:

Name an ancient invention, which is still used in some parts of the world today, that allows people to see through walls.

    What can this be?

    ANS: A window
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you find something which has keys that open no locks, with space but no room, and allows you to enter but not to go in?

    ANS: A keyboard
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you need for brushing your teeth, combing your hair and keeping the rain off?

ANS: A toothbrush, a comb and an umbrella
