I don't know about people in the middle of towns - I don't go shopping that much - but I do know how to get rid of door to door people. If it's like... a salesperson, you wait for them to get into their flow and then just close the door. Works a treat!

If it's jehovah's witnesses or something similar, you just smile sweetly and say "Well, you see, my mother's muslim, my fathers buddhist, im an atheist and my brothers agnostic. So which god are we talkinga bout when you say "god" here?"

They generally start looking nervous. Then you close the door on them if they persist.

There is a real hot bed of chuggers near where i work in Morgate, and also at Poultry near Bank station. Really are annoying. It used to always be Paint Ball pushers, but the chuggers have moved in now. Why they think i want to spend my precious lunch time, chin wagging with them i don't know, but i normally inform them i already give to good causes......I participate in the national lottery each week.

I like to have a bit of fun with green peace people, see how much they reall know because I'm an Environmental Consultant so I usually in the know. They can be really overzealous though, its people like that that give the rest of us a bad name. Petitions I don't mind so much its when they try and guilt trip you into giving them money that I get pissed off, the best thing to do is lie and tell them that you are already signed up little white lies to get you out of the situation.

Classic Never had a run with those lots. I like to think that I make some conscious effort for the environment.
But if those lots ever bug me in the manner you've described, I would just tell them that I love whale sashimi and they should try some.

Best tactic DONT ever make eye contact and if they do start to surround you just push your way through, Ive never had to get angry/threaten but I will if they continue to harass.

I guess I must have the 'approachable' look on my face, I look people in the eye, and I reckon that I normally have a slight smile when I walk. And means I am always the one who get approached even when I walk in a group. Little do they know that I'll draw the line at being polite, and have little intent to sign up to their causes.

It's like those sodding gypsies (not meaning to be racist, but they were last time i checked) in London who give you flowers and ask you for money.

Ah, those people.. if they don't even have the courtesy to say hi (and last couple of times it happened they never did), I am not stopping for them. I'll keep walking along even after they've put the flower on my shirts jacket. This confuses them sometime, and last time the woman chased after me to take the flower back
