I like hands hand hands
Halifax are Bank of Scotland and i really dont think thats a sound investment atm, the fact that the useless gits are getting a great deal of taxpayers money to bail them out really sticks in my throat

Post office account is good or the Nationwide do a good one.
jem (15-10-2008)
There is no Nationwide in my town so thats of the list,But everyone has given me some good banks so cheers
Think everyone's got some jip with whoever they bank, or have banked with - in my eyes, Royal Bank of Scotland don't deserve to get bailed out from what I've been, and a lot of people I know as well have been, through with them. However, having been a Halifax AND Bank of Scotland customer since I was a kid (mummy opening these accounts for me), I've not got a single complaint about any aspect of their service.
But yes, the point that some banks are requiring partial nationalisation does not instill confidence.
All saving up to £36K are covered regardless, and I seriously doubt jem is going to have that amount put aside for her 7 year old.
Seriously, anyone with that kind of savings should be getting professional independent advise, not off a bunch of blokes on a forum.

Now she hasn't got that much if she did i would be having it lol
Correction, cover is up to £50K now isn't it?
So I think we can stop pretending this is Daily Mail comments page.
Yep. it is 50. I wouldn't put money in the banks, they've shown themselves to be reckless gamblers and everybody's children is already bailing them out to the tune of £37bn. A mutual building society is the best bet. The Post Office products are provided by the Bank of Ireland I think, ok at the mo but I don't reckon this banking thing is over yet. A big sticking plaster is covering a very big injury for now...
Isn't that "you administer through the Post Office if you want to"? Sorry, not splitting hairs but the NS&I and the PO are different institutions aren't they? One backed by the Bank of Ireland, the other by the UK Treasury. It could be an important distinction for someone..

these past few weeks have been absurd.
We've seen government bonds, have worse credit offerings than McDonalds bonds.
brings a whole new meaning to the term "Junk <food> Bonds"?
Seriously, the problem at the moment is people don't know who to trust, and its often those who claim to be mutual or co-operative who are the worst.
