Twitter - surprisingly quiet on Hexus

A few peeps at work are into Twitter, so I thought I'd get the opinion of the only group who matter: Hexites. But a search for Twitter brings back a scarce 8 hits.

So, who's on Twitter? Do you love it? Are you bored of it? Have you heard of it? etc etc etc.

    Start spouting opinions....Now!
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

I'm on twitter - it's okay - you can follow me (joshwal) if you want - I'm still getting my head round it and it seems impossible to find people or subject to follow without using some external websites.

I've heard the name, but know nothing of - so voted for "Wha?" - it was the closest to my viewpoint IMO.

/me goes to read the Wikipedia entry on it, see what it says!

Re: Twitter - surprisingly quiet on Hexus

A lot of Hexites are on Farcebook & there's a reasonably large Hexus group, I'm on myspaz too, but never use it much tbh. Occasionally Linkedin too.

But I don't have the time as i'm on here mostly, all the Hexus action you need

Must admit I don't see the point in these services, why do I want to know if a friend is having a crap in the loo whilst on twitter or facebook. They are pointless services to me.

    Ditto.

Not only do I not see the point, but I see plenty of point in avoiding sticking much in the way of personal info in the public domain in profiles on such place. First, I see reasons for not sticking it in public, amd even if profiles are restricted access, I see reasons for not giving it to facebook, etc, and at least for me, plenty of reason not to give it to that kind of site.

My attitude is that friends etc already know anything about me I'm likely to stick on that type of site, so there's no point. And other than friends, why would I want to put personal information on some commercial database? I have enough trouble getting companies I actually deal with to not bombard me with crap through the post, so no way am I risking giving anything to any such company.

And before anyone says "they don't have your address" ..... the whole point of data mining is to build up profiles from various sources and extract patterns. Some data sources can be external. And if you put a little info from here, and a littler from there all together, you can end up with a lot.

I won't even give the government information if I don't have to, on pain of ending up in court. I'm certainly not volunteering any to the like of facebook or myspace.

I "do" facebook, but that's the only one... as it allows me to organise my social life with my friends.

Myspcae - I have an account but I don't touch it, same as all the others...

I'm not interested in "following" others really.

I keep an eye on a couple of twitters, mostly gaming related e.g Garnett Lee from 1up.com, can't be bothered with one myself though facebook's enough hassle.

    Agreed.

All these sites are rather strange. Worries me that so many people actually use them. Scary.
