    Laptop is works.
Main desktop has been the same and is plenty good enough.
    Shuttle is still used daily.

Swapping old Shuttle for a service on the car.
Got an old IBM x235 if anyone wants a server, also a new 19" Dell monitor and some other bits, might do a for sale list then eBay what you guys on here dont want...

Can't see me slimming down my pc collection any time soon. My htpc gets used almost daily, my everyday pc...well gets used pretty much everyday for browsing the tinterweb, emails bit of light gaming now and again wordprocessing etc and my main gaming pc whilst it might not get used everyday i like to keep it clutter free so it almost never gets used on the internet other than online gaming and pretty much only has games / benchmarking stuff on it.

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

Don't really have anything to downsize. Will be adding a 1TB hard drive to my computer (1.5TB total), buying some external disks for back up and that's it. Might sell (or pay someone to take it off my hands really lol) my old laptop running ubuntu, as I don't get much use for it.

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I downsized by replacing the 4 HDD's that were in my system with 2*SSD in RAID, and a 1TB conventional drive for everything which was spread over multiple drives before..

    My PSU is much happier

Now I've got a stack of various drives, and a pile of other bits hanging about, lol

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I'm in the process of selling my second PC, all I need is my PC and my Laptop, I'm thinking of going self employed like I was some years ago, now that I have a decent car the only thing stopping me is basically me.

Got lots of stuff I really must sell off, look out for a big for sale thread from also

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I may be downsizing in the literal sense. My antec 900 is just too big, I'd love to buy a mATX board, modular PSU and throw it all in a lanbox or similar. Ofcourse I'd need to upgrade my gfx as the 2900xt is big, chunky, loud, hot and takes alot of power

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I did it a while ago, stopped overclocking, stopped spending cash. I only ever used msn and web browsing so went back to my small quiet shuttle.

Wont be upgrading until msn and IE stops loading

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

Not really. A while back I got my Mac Pro, which has about 4.3TB of storage space, of which 2.3TB is accessible (rest, is synced 12hr backups thanks to Chronosync). Since shifting all my main data across, I've found that I've almost stopped using my MacBook Pro for at least a month now.

Since December, I've also added a second system in which runs Ubuntu as a 24/7 Dev and Torrent box; this allows me to sleep my Mac during the night while the server keeps on chugging. If anything will have me rethink this current setup, it would be the leccy bills and I may do some investigating in this regard sometime soon...

So we should all keep our eyes open for some cheap second-hand hardware becoming available soon, eh? Just as soon as you've recovered from the shock and got back up off the ground.

I've a suggestion .... be careful what questions you ask unless you really want to know the answer.

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

The article on the front page about how much it costs to run PC's and TV's and so on here actually made me stop and think how much it's costing my parents on year as an average with the fact that we have 3 pretty decent spec'd PC's and 2 decent Laptops.

Decided that unless I'm not gaming and just using the net and msn and working on my website then I'll use the Laptop for that, but if it's anything that needs more CPU and GPU power then it's off to the main besty for me.

Quite When my Mom raises the issue of my computers always being on, around the time of the electricity bill arriving of course, I blame it on the fridges and deep freezers

I have three 1KVA UPSes running in my room alone, another two 1KVA UPSes running upstairs: one powering my Mom's laptop, Skype phone etc; and the other powering the PABX system, and one 600kVA Patriot powering the Wifi basestation, ADSL model, and WiMAX CPE unit. I am sure that there is quite a lot of wastage with the UPSes alone but with the poor quality of power here, it's either that or toasted hardware.

I'm back home in Colombo, Sri Lanka...will be here for a couple months and plan to visit London later on in the year.

With the terrorist activities in the north, we have "any time power cuts" to complete "black outs". There are a lot of surges etc; sure, surge regulators could suffice but UPSes are the only sure way to ensure safety to any decent kit.

I even run my home theatre setup (Plasma, AV Receiver, 3x power amps, powered sub, PS3, Xbox 360 etc) all off UPSes as well

    hello no

Shocked to hear we getting a bonus this year, so think its time for a new setup. The missus is getting this pc. Going to have to start deciding what to get soon, some good i7 deals out there now at last it seems.
