Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I downsized a while ago from 4gb Q6600 quad core etc. to a 17" Pentium dual core laptop.

The system was overkill for what I used it for, which was just browsing the web, listening to music and watching videos. The laptop does that fine and no more spending loads of money on upgrades anymore

I'm actually looking to build a new system. The credit crunch is all in the mind

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

Status update: one laptop and 3/4 of one desk-top cleared down so far (this is seriously hard work!)

Unfortunately, one thing has led to another, and I'm now simultaneously attempting to sort-through ten+ years worth of CD-Rs / DVD-Rs (mostly unlabelled)...

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

Laptop eh? I used to use a laptop for everything a few years back but it wasn't particularly good at anything, especially gaming - which I do quite a bit of.

I've been using 2 desktops with one with older kit for general use and the other with newer kit for gaming for quite some time now, and like how this setup works.

Generally it means that most of the time I'm only using a relatively weak PC for tasks that don't require any power and only fire the other one up when I want to play games. Keeping the games machine pretty clean also seems to benefit the games themselves, so I don't see myself changing the setup any time soon.

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

    Update #2:

Finally finished clearing down the systems. I now have everything vital on my laptop's 320Gb drive (with external HDD for back-ups), and it's great to be able to find stuff again after fifteen-odd years of chaos!

Also chucked out loads of old CDs and labelled dozens more.

Feels great right now; let's see how long it lasts...

Re: Anyone else 'downsizing' their systems?

I haven't bought upgrades in a while, but no intention on downsizing, I just heavily underclock it except when I want to play games to save on the elec
