    MP's expenses released

    Just curious to see if anyone has taken note of the current situation? It has all been released now, and can be found very easily on the bbc website below;

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politi...tal&order=desc

    I am totally disgusted with the way the whole it has all turned out. MPs claimed £100s of pounds on silk cushions, £1000s on gardening, £1000s for cleaning their swimming pool and claiming for second...and third homes all within the same year.

    Just flicking down the list is a test of ones anger management, quite how someone needs over £180,000+ worth of allowances to allow them to do their job is anyone's guess.

    Im by no means fully educated on the situation and usually i have no opinion on politics/MPs (other then a deep general miss trust for it all) but even this has stirred me up a bit.

    Yep, if they have legitimate reasons for an expense then I dont mind. What strikes me though is that a lot of expense goes to 'staffing'? Do they need that much help to do their job?

    Two points on the above article:

    1. How can there be a property in Scunthorpe priced highly enough to warrant an £800/mo mortgage?
    2. What a face for radio!

    I apologise for any offence caused (to Scunthorpe, not the ugly MP).
    PHP Code:

    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    The word legitimate has been stretched to new heights it seems. iv just been reading about KITTY USSHER who tried to claim decorating costs because the artex(?) was in bad taste.....despite having lived there for a claimed 5 years?

    I dont understand why are MPs allowed to buy houses & claim for gardening, improvements, potted plants, swimming pools, expensive furniture etc? Shouldn't they be renting pre-furnished, government pre-approved flats?

    It just makes more sense to me.

    Re: MP's expenses released

    Heh, my MP claimed more than Gordon Brown

    Not surprising....he's a bit of a ******

    For the staff, a lot of that is on members of the family/friends

    There was an MP that spent £x000 on a report his son at university was to produce and never produced anything

    This, there should be a road of houses, or group of flats built near Westminster instead of allowances for 'second homes'.

    The whole thing is ridiculous. When did MPs* stop working for the people?

    They'd put gates at each end to keep the 'real' people away from them, don't worry. They won't have to mix with normal people.

    Definitely not, imagine the 5* personal private health care & injury compensation they'd claim from the government. Not to mention claiming the costs for rebuilding & refurbishing the palatial mansions they claimed they were living in.

    I was hoping once they are out of office on something like that they get the same level of care as the army!

    Re: MP's expenses released

    A little while ago I had a discussion on this forum that included the 'service' provided by politicians. I defended their reputations and work ethic and have been reading the revelations about expenses with utter dismay.

    I was naive and wrong .

    I unreservedly apologise to all those who evidently have a much better grasp of the truly sorry state of current political morals.

    Sorry all. There's no fool like an old fool.

    Re: MP's expenses released

    This was like the whole thing with the Ism thread.

    But still I get the feeling that it is not just Labour? If no one found out about this they would have never stopped taking advantage. And MP claims for non existant mortgage

    Is it just the Labour party involved? If not then it says a lot eh?

    Yep. But they'll still be writing up their wish lists on paper headed "Expenses Claim Form" and posting them to The Taxpayer.
