I have "flu-like" symptoms! Do I have H1N1? Am I going to die?

Normally I don't get very ill when I have something and I don't feel very weak/ill now either. I feel fine to go to work and continue with everyday life...

    Symptoms:
-cough with nice yellow phlegm (appeared today)
-sharp chest pain (appeared today), most irritating symptom, constant but severity of pain oscillates
-semi blocked and runny nose (been with me for a few days)
-sore throat when I wake up (been with me for a few days)

I live in London and I work in Tower Hill.

Normally I don't make a fuss when I am ill, but if it is something very contagious, maybe I should skip work on Monday/Tuesday.

Seriously though, just give NHS Direct a buzz, and check it over with them, they're more knowledgeable, and it's what it's there for

No point. I don't want the drug and they won't give it to me as I am not high risk. My immune system is quite good. I should be fine. I knew I would get it at some point because I live/work in London. This might not even be H1N1, it could be something else or nothing...

    Sleeping around with mixican girls?

It sounds like the flu, take a day off and go see your gp. Even if its swine flu, its highly unlikely you will die.

Therefore no. Yellow (usually fluorescent) stuff is bacterial. Flu is viral.

If the cough doesn't clear up in two weeks then you've got a chest infection. The rest is just a cold - if you go feverish, get a high temperature and can't move your limbs enough to turn on a computer then you've got flu. What kind of flu doesn't really matter - they're pretty much all as serious as each other and treated the same way.

Re: I have "flu-like" symptoms! Do I have H1N1? Am I going to die?

I had swine flu/ winter flu symptoms a month ago, It was known to be going around my place of work. At it's worse I had was an aching body, a lack of energy and diarrhoea. After I was at home for a week I was fine, I called the NHS DIRECT just to be sure. They did send me a swab kit, which I never bothered to send back .

siM just give them a call see what they say.

The other sex have hightened immune systems. Therefore when they get the 'flu', it does not hit them as hard as it hits us.

Doesn't the flu affect everyone differently? I thought some people become bed bound for a week and for others it is just a mild inconvenience and they can go on with life as normal.

Good choice, you may end with up bird flu as well.

A lot of people confuse the flu with the common cold (rhino virus) or some milder bacterial infections as the symtoms at first can be very similar. 9/10 times a proper flu will incapacitate most men for at least a day.

Hmm, interesting. I can't remember ever having flu then (unless I am one of those 1/10 people). If it gets worse tomorrow I will give them a call, but I suspect it will be gone by then. Normally when I get the common cold, I only get phlegm right at the end.

I was actually hoping it was the swine flu actually, so I can get it out of the way and stop worrying every time someone coughs or sneezes on the tube.
