The problem is you can't guarantee the flu you catch now will have the same antigens as the one doing the rounds in winter.

It's true, but if I get swine flu now there's at least a chance I'd have the antibodies floating around my system in time for the OH NOES WEREALLGUNNADIE variant that hits in late November. If I don't get it at all then there's somewhat less of a chance.



My point being that I feel things are being somewhat overblown. Thousands die from common or garden 'flu every year. The fact that out of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) who have picked it up worldwide a few have died doesn't make this the Bubonic Plague.

i just got over a bout of the flu i am in sussex.

nhs direct are snowed under couldnt get through called my doctor and had a phone consultation as you aren't allowed near your doctors if you have flu like symptoms.

Was in bed from wednesday afternoon until yesterday pretty much with temperature of 102-104 sore throat and headache.(i thought it was just a cold the missus disagreed)

My doctor said i probably just have normal flu as i am not sure if anyone else i know has or had swine flu, since they stopped testing for swine flu they now dont have a clue as people with colds think they have it and you dont get swabbed anymore.

the huge upsurge in cases is more than likely people that are worried about catching it scamming some tamiflu tablets thinking it will protect them from it.

I think it's great we stress the NHS, with our swine flu like symptoms, at least we can see what we pay for... Which is not much.

As someone who has received probably well over £100K of treatment in the last 10 years, I think I have to disagree! (Unless you meant "we don't pay much for what we get"...)

Really? The NHS have always tried to downplay my condition, with the good old "Let's try a long course of antibiotics" excuse. Then two years later a doctor with common sense, decided that the only way to cure the condition is with surgery. Which in the long run has cost them more, which also confuses me .

It certainly isn't perfect (primary care in particular) but I cannot really fault the hospital treatment I have had!
