London's going to remain a craphole as far as driving's concerned as long as people still drive in it, regardless of how much tax we pay.

Give me a job, a house and pay someone to look after my grandmother and I will leave London.

well improve the transport system and people will drive less. Its not easy just to "get out" as stated by the guy above me.

They'll charge however much the market will put up with, and in a rich town like London, it's a lot!

Re: A reminder. Fuel duty increases at midnight.

Hi there. We've heard the various excuses to justify the fuel duty rise. Allegedly they are needed to help fund 'world class services', also, that old lame excuse, reduce CO2 emissions. We know that their plans for expanding Heathrow will do the opposite!

The BBC and other sites yesterday noted that Alistair Darling was making £7 Billion available
to the IMF to help 'emerging economies' and we are also giving £1 Bn a year extra to the EU - to help our competitors' economies.

The spectre of road pricing is still around, even though motorists have been *net* contributors of over £400 Bn since 1997, the government claims that there isn't enough money for road building.

I recommend the Association of British Drivers' 'Fair Deal for Motorists' campaign site - and in particular a page for taking action.

I don't think we should take it lying down.

So because you, with your lifestyle and your family and your job and your friends and your hobbies has never needed a car, it means everyone else does not need one? If that were feasible our roads would be practically empty - only lorries, buses vans and bicycles using the road.

Ever tried getting a pushchair & 2 month old baby onto a bus, or god forbid, a tube train? People do need to drive, and even if not, if they've worked hard to get the car why should they then be constantly punished for having it?

I see pushchairs on buses (they have an area for that on most London buses) i don't use the Tube personally so can not comment there. Trains i have seen plenty of people using pushchairs, my cousin does with his little ones. All i am saying that in London (which was my main point) you have plenty of options with travel, and also frequently you have shops fairly nearby.

Im not saying people "shouldn't" drive or be "punished" just that people do have choices and don't always need to have to drive. I mean you can tell it stresses people out (road rage) you move about 1 mile a hour, why do it to yourselves? that's all i am saying.

Have you ever tried that in morning at rush hour? I had already pointed this out if you bothered reading.

Erm... some people do need to drive? how am i supposed to get to work if i don't drive?

The earliest bus from here is ~7:30am, yep that's all fine and dandy, but the journey by bus all the way would be 3hours 20minutes and even then there is a 25 minute walk on the end of that...

meaning that i get to work at 10:52am (excluding the walk) and other mitigating factors, which i don't think my boss would be too pleased about... seeing as though i'm supposed to start at 8:30am...

and then there is also the return journey, which if i finished at 5pm and managed to get to the bus stop in time (25 minute walk remember) then i would have a 5 hour 15 minute bus journey... meaning i would get back home at gone 10:00pm, and that wouldn't even get me home as the last bus in is at 6:30, so if i used public transport i couldn't even get home at night.

Train means a similar story, getting the 7:30 bus to the station, waiting for a train to go to a larger station, waiting for a train to go to a smaller station, and then waiting for a train to take me to the correct station, which then leaves me in the middle of nowhere with a 2 hour walk...

OR, the alternative is to drive and have a ~30 minute car journey... I would say i NEED to drive... Which we offset by car sharing...

Until someone invents a teleporter, or public transport becomes useful and cost effective, i will be driving to work... which i need to do, otherwise i cannot get there...

And here I was thinking Hexus was above that kind of thing. Let's try and keep the discussion mature (not pointed at just you josh).
