    Re: Vampires.... what's the attraction?

I got dragged to see New Moon yesterday. My girlfriend said it was repayment for her having to watch Top Gear every week. I figured fair's fair - how bad can it be?

It was genuinely terrible - a complete absence of plot, terrible acting, and the girl in it won't stop panting (which you might think is a good thing but it gets really annoying after a while). I haven't seen the first one but apparently it's worse than this one but I'm not sure that's possible.

Anyway, if you like vampire movies I'd recommend avoiding this one (unless you're a teenage girl that is).

    Re: Vampires.... what's the attraction?

A friend of mine does reviews for Bleedingcool, his thoughts

TWILIGHT makes me really glad I don’t have a teenage daughter as I would have to work really hard to teach her not to be a submissive doormat who’s into abusive bad boys and even then I would be unlikely to succeed.
    http://www.bleedingcool.com/2009/11/...t-the-vampire/

I personally don't think that much of underworld as a "vampire" film, but as monster vs monster, with no one really "good", I liked it.

The thing I dislike about a lot of more recent vampire stuff is the lack of blood drinking, or more the conversion of it into some form of compulsion/compunction.
It's not, it's food, If a vimpire got all moppy and didn't want to drink blood, then that vampire would starve = dead.
That was always the thing about it, to gain immortallity they have to take the life from others, life for life, nothing is free.
If all it takes is will power and abstanence then there's no great downside and a heck of a lot of upside.

There's another thing I always found slightly distrubing about this sort of romantic "story" that being the vampire is useally hundreds of years old, the human in their teens.
How many of the girls who coo over this sort of thing would also coo over some old man marring a very young bride?

Blood, blood, gallons of the stuff...

My local vampire and I sometimes share a coffee at the late night coffee stall on Blackheath.

Lochinvar (for that is his name, it's a 1563 thing) worries terribly he's going to feed from somebody HIV positive.

It's not all fun being a vampire you know.

Who cares about perception? Obviously that settlement changed nothing as they made 2 more movies after that and a 4th on it's way. I wasn't even aware of it until you linked me to it so obviously the media didn't snag up on it.

110% agree with you. Not sure why she's even wasting her time with other movies.

^She says she doesn't really like vampire films, though.

She looked utterly amazing in Van Helsing too (an overblown, overindulgent film in my view, lightened only by her and my conviction that one of the 'brides' looked like Carol Vorderman.)

Miss Rhona "Ali G The Movie" Mitra? Never. Hardly a fitting replacement for Ms Beckinsale though in my opinion even though she is easy on the eyes. That's not my beef with the film though, it was just too by the numbers for my tastes. It was like watching The Core, entertaining every so often but ultimately soulless

Read Brian Lumbley's Necroscope, very good vampire based series of books, Vampires should scare, not go shiny in the sunlight

I think we had zombies first, then vampires...now it's currently werewolf's.

Sometimes you'll be lucky and you'll get vampires & werewolf's together along with Frankenstein's monster (who I guess is a type of zombie).

    Brilliant.

I think I read one of his once but I can't remember which I'm ashamed to say.

Kim Newman's Anno Dracula series are ones to try too.

Love Being Human. It's funny, sad and Mitchell is just

Don't understand the Twilight phenomenon though. Having watched the first film I won't be bothering with the next or any of the books.

    Re: Vampires.... what's the attraction?

What makes me laugh about the twilight series is the fact there are older women who call themselves "twilight moms" and go to launches etc and spend all night drooling over the characters.

If grown men did the same, I'm sure they would have been lynched and strung up to dry for preying on young women.

If there is a case for double standards, I'm pretty sure this one
