It isn't so bad here in Paris; -5C, but with about an inch of snow. The problem will be this weekend in Carcassonne where they are predicting -12C. That is -12C in the south of France. wtf?
when I bought my house there I dreamed of lazing by the pool drinking red wine and eating wild boar pate on baguette, not cold enough to freeze vodka, in the house.
(Thanks Evilmunky)
Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.
Yeah, for some reason it no longer display in Firefox, but it works fine in IE (Thanks Gav though ).
(Not implying there is anything wrong with Firefox, but I do seem to get problem with files not downloading properly due to dodgy connection and Firefox sticking to what's stored in the cache)
The driver was very lucky there to get away with such little damage, or not injur/kill anyone.
Whilst I hope the two who bailed out were not hurt, even attempting to drive in such conditions where the car just slides like that should result in loss of licence or prosecution.
The snow is melting in Newcastle now after more than 3 weeks of coverage. We've had icicles about 4 - 5 feet long hanging from our house, and with a lot of crashing and banging, they have all fallen off this morning. Apparently the temperature is about 4 degrees today.
Here in South Suffolk its thawing as well, although we've got off quite lightly compared with other parts of the country.
There's a little bit of snow predicted for later and tomorrow, but hopefully not much and we're near the end - hate everything so bloody cold!
Loss of licence or prosecution?
That's just crazy, you don't know it's icy in areas untill you try it, am i to loose my licence if i hit a patch of ice near my work 7 miles away? Because i should have known?
The car came in from the right ok so it's fair to assume that where that car started wasn't anywhere near as bad. The shouldn't have jumped out but that's another issue.
It's snowing now quite heavily here in Redruth in Cornwall, has been since about 8 am this morning. Glad I have the day off work tomorrow, however whats going to happen on Tuesday remains a mystery.
I agree actually that the driver should at least be warned about that, jumping out of the car like that was crazy - they were far safer in the car and lucky that the car did not run them over. At least whilst in the car if they did hit anything they could honestly say that they had done their best to avoid it - who says the car would not have found grip and stopped sooner had they stayed in the car.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be warned, people who are involved in accidents should always get a slapped wrist or told they should have been more carefull Blah, blah etc... Jumping out of a moving car while it carrys on down the street is incredibly stupid.
But to say people should loose their licence for "driving in such conditions" is ridiculous. You expect nobody to try and get to work? But then go to the supermarket and expect it to be open and bread and milk on the shelves, go to the hospital and expect treatment, still expect post?
And how on earth are the highways agency supposed to get the gritters out when their drivers are to be prosecuted for trying to drive to work in the snow and ice? Stupid statement and i'm someone that made it into work on time all last week despite the snow and ice. But should have probably had the week off?
Could they be done for quitting?
And i'm also one of the ones that made the (30mile) trek to work in the ice and the snow, and then went driving around for work all week...
If you drive sensibly then there is no problem, it's the idiots that cause problems, like there is currently a people carrier that must have been going way too fast up the road, as it has managed to go straight on at the corner, get all the way over a very steep bank and is implanted in the ground on the other side...
Sure the car/van has stepped out on me a few times, but it's easy enough to pull it back into the straight...
When will end & when will people stop driving in it & complaning about getting stuck
