Avatar - James Cameroon is back!

I just came back from seeing this in 3d. I have never seen a 3d movie until now and i WOW i am gob smacked. The CGI in 3d was absoleuty stunning in every way and some of the scenes were beutiful and real, So beutiful that was upset when parts of their world was being destroyed.

In terms of the actual movie, well what i can i say, it had everything. Romance, Action and a bit of comedy on top of that. None of the scenes looked out of place or over stretched and each character played a major role in this movie. I couldnt see any plot holes but im sure their are some if you really REALLY look for them but for me i could not see any obvious ones at all.

overal this is a 9/10 movie for me. I would give it a 10 if they diddnt hold back on some of the fight scenes as i felt it could have been a bit more brutal. i dont like it when for example, you see someone about stab someone in the head but see the camera turn away as soon as they do it but ahh well it is a family film after all so cant expect those types of brutal scenes to be shown.

i enjoyed it. It was a fun ride and i am considering investing on a home theatre 3d setup in the future.

Thanks Cameroon, the wait was well worth it.

    ^^roffle!

As for the film, I've not seen it - but it'll be the first thing I see in 3D I expect, and I've not heard a bad thing about it yet!

Im very annoyed..was supposed to be going seeing the film in the IMAX today, got there nice and early to make sure I could a decent seat, met my mates there..then saw the que and thought that it couldnt possibly be right (first film showing which we were going to was 11), spoke to a member of staff...apparently the IMAX was broke..the bulb (the ONLY bulb they have around apparently) broke, which meant no film for anyone, at all, all day

Re: Avatar - James Cameroon is back!

Watched this today at the local IMAX, it certainly was a visual feast, very impressive. When i booked the tickets i expected the 3D to be a bit of a gimmic but actually it was really very good. Usually after a 3 hour film in the cinema i'm itching to get out but i could easily have watched it again right there.

Don't get me wrong, the plot has some serious pitfalls, and some of the dialog is just corny. The big uplifting speech for instance, braveheart anyone? Also some of the vehicles (the dropship) in particular was straight out of Aliens. In fact the whole film had very similar trends, battle hardened (read bad-ass, hicks -esk) marines, sigorny weaver, walking robot exo-skeletons, and casting michelle rodriguez as the drop ship pilot... it's Aliens all over again, and why not. If you have a winning formula stick with it i say.

I give it a solid 8/10. Would of got 9 if the dialogue was a tad less cheesy and given a once over with a red pen. Still one for the Blu-Ray collection when it comes out.

Awesome visuals but don't expect anything remotely new and original from the plot. Ho-hum, worth watching once but I won't be buying this one.

Just saw it there in 2D and was pretty impressed. Nothing special though, it's a good film but some parts left me feeling a bit "meh".

Not sure I will see it to be honest - looked a bit meh! However I have a 3d related question.

Do the 3d specs you get at the cinema fit over normal glasses?

Re: Avatar - James Cameroon is back!

Saw it today with mates, very good movie. The only thing is that if you watch it in '3d' in a normal cinema, its not proper. At times it became so annoying it was giving me a headache.,I think the only place worth watching it in 3d would be imax.

Its definetely on my blu ray list though, will look lovely on my projector

I didn't watch it in 3D but I did see it on a Marcus UltraScreen (4X the size of a normal theater screen). I was blown away by the CGI and even the story was great. I have always liked sci-fi movies so this was a real treat.

Re: Avatar - James Cameroon is back!

Visually this is the most impressive computer generated film I've ever seen. Bits of the plot end up been rammed down your throat at times. At 160 minutes was a killer on my back and butt. I don't have a blue ray player but I bet this film will look great on it and plus you can take a break half way through.

I'm not sure about 3D, I watched it in 3D because it was the next available showing. The 3d is a lot better than the black and white red and green 3d of the 50's, it's worth see a film in 3d just to see what it looks like, but it does add that much to a film. I would recommend waiting for somthing else to see in 3d, as the glasses make the colours less vivid (due to the tint of the lens)
