Weather forcasts - what a waste of time!

I have totally had enough of the met office this week. Everytime i check the forcast it changes, last night it said we could expect more snow in peterborough for the next few days so i made arrangments not to travel (ie not see family) just in case, only to wake up to blue skys! I now check the forcast for tomorrow and it is clear skys all the way into next week.

This has been going on for the entire week now, one minute we're getting snow, the next minute sleet, then clear skys....then it snows!!

.....and this is the same met office predicting global warming severals years in advance?

My mistake, they're predicting it decades in advance!

Its now snowing, despite the Met office changing its forecast to sunny with cloudy intervals this morning!

If it's any consolation, I stubbed my toe earlier and then stood on an upturned mains plug.

Yep. They definately now how to predict the global climate decades in advance.
However they are completely useless at predicting weather nationally a few months in advance as proven by the met office predicting a nice warm, dry summer and that turning out to be completely wrong.
They also canot accurately predict the weather a few days in advance.

But they definately know how to predict the climate decades in advance.

So much so that they still need to make up data to support this theory.

Re: Weather forcasts - what a waste of time!

If it's any consolation, the prediction is clear skies all week here and it's pelting with snow as i type!

Weather forecasting is never exact, there's a limit to how good the forecasts are and after that it really *is* prediction. It's worlds better than it was in the 60's, but it's never going to be perfect.

Re: Weather forcasts - what a waste of time!

Weather patterns change very quickly so at the end of the day it is only a 'prediction' at best. Area where I live is extremely difficult for the Met to forecast for - something to do with the 'gulf stream' .
