I think that streetster had the best idea....the raffle...also maybe you could buy several small prizes and use them in upcoming comp's?
Good idea mark

Great idea. i wasn't actually aware that there were any competitions until you posted this thread (hence i haven't entered). not that i'm saying you haven't advertised them, i just hadn't seen them as my bookmark is to the forum (not the site) and i've only been in the cookery forum once.Originally Posted by Skii
i think people have been getting the wrong idea about this thread though. the way i see it. the comps are there to generate a bit of energy, some fun and give away some free things! All David was trying to point out is that if you want the prizes to get better there needs to be more responses to the current ones, so if you want the chance to win 1gb of ram etc.. the prizes such as woks (which by all means are useful, a wok isn't that much different from a frying pan which even if you dont cook everyone uses a frying pan from time to time. or just put it in the cupboard for a while and give your mum an extra birthday present this year.) have to get a good response first so that the companies donating any free hardware etc.. know they are getting their product advertised to a lot of people, at the end of the day, thats the main thing they want.
I think all David was asking for was for a little support to help get us all better prizes.
As i said, i haven't entered myself yet, so i don't know what the entry requirements are (i'll check in a minute) but it sounds like you have to cook something or give a recipe idea, maybe this isn't to everyones interest so maybe some easier comps are needed, just a few ideas i've had but most people have a printer, a lot have a camera (or even camera phones), so how about competitions being things like..... print out a hexus.net banner/pic (like the one at the top of this forum page) and have people enter simple photos of them placed in weird/funny situation (like one half way up a tree etc...) or a photo of a celebrity holding one/or a photo of you with a celeb while you're holding one etc... that could generate some interesting, funny results. also it automatically has you wanting to have the best pic, in the weirdest place or with the most famous celeb, and soon the fact that you don't use a wok isnt a factor as you just wanna win.
hope that all makes sense, sorry if the grammar is bad (i haven't read it back) and yes i am aware i use brackets too much.
I think subucni said what I was thinking the best, and I didnt mean in any way the wok competition was bad, I was just using it as an example. Also I was going to enter, but at 3am at the time and you needed a pic of the cooked food, so I was going to cook a meal in psp7 of one of my favorites that I have a local resturant, but my psp skills were lacking so I gave up...
I enjoyed the other competition which took AGES to do my answer, looking through a review for really difficult questions and the end bit copyed from a site that google found me - I think a poem or something was requirement of the compo.. im crap at them so I just used some thign funny... I wasnt expecting to win either and I got mentioned in the results for having the worst entry or something
I didn't realise you were getting such a bad turnout...I have entered one competition and havn't bothered with the Star Wars one because I never really watched the films and to be honest, I don't even know what a Wookie is!!
But you are right, respect is a 2 way thing and if you have the time to post competitions up...we should take the time regardless of what the competition involves to have a go 'if' we want the prize!
Okay, you missed the point entirely! The point is, if you offer prizes with a broader appeal (note that I did *not* say higher value!), then you'll get more people entering..Originally Posted by David
