Give handbrake a go. I think you can port straight to a format suitable for the PS3 that way. If not I think xvid4PSP can do it too but I don't know if it will take vob files.

    Re: .vob compression

I've renamed .vob to .avi when necessary to fool conversion software before :confuses:, it's a pretty flexible format but definitely needs compression. I'd go for handbrake as before, and a 264 HD codec.

If you use handbrake, and use the iPod settings, adjust the resolution (so it isn't 320x240 or somethng crud like that) I think it will encode it using x.264 and then wrap it up as either.mp4 or .m4v. Personally i rename it to .mp4.

which would mean what for me? the settings it came with seem alright, there is not to much loss in quality which is what i need and it knocked of 2gb pretty happy with that so far, however if i can get better why not?

Not alot, I was confusing handbrake and xvid4PSP. xvid4PSP you can really fiddle with the settings. Yu can even not bother to re-encode and just have it as lossless. lol.

If it works and you are happy then stick with it.
