    Re: Paper Driving Licence

I had a paper license until I was 26- one of the last people to do so as, like wombar, they phased them out soon after I got mine. I had to get a photo licence when I applied for a provisional Category D entitlement so I could learn to drive buses.

Unlike wombar, I haven't been ID'd since I was 16. Though that's not much of a boast, because I think it's the baldness that gives my age away.

If you move house, or make any changes at all to your license, then you'll have to get a photo one then, with all the annoyance that entails. Otherwise, you're good until your 70th birthday.

I'm pretty sure my mum's had the same paper license since 1984.

    note these phrases:

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) no longer issue paper driving licences. The European Union has a directive requiring all member states to issue driving licences in a card format containing the licence holder's photo and signature.
    and

    Benefits of a photocard

There are numerous benefits that the photocard driving licence offers:
now note the total lack of "You must do it or small kittens will die" phrase.

Now.. tell her Uncle Zakky say's that, in this case, her Mum knows best!

    Re: Paper Driving Licence

Tis as I thought. Unless I change name, move house or get points on my licence I'm OK for a good while with my paper licence.

She has read the above, conceded Mum is right and reeked her revenge by sticking a load of pictures of me on Facebook after a few drinkies on Saturday night

I can vouch for mothers and Aunts doing this. Mine have put a load of 'embarassing' images up on facebook of me over the last few months.

You might even get away with it for that though, as they just print the points on the paper, but still wouldnt suprise me if you then have to pay for the pleasure by paying for a photo licence.

Adding points won't require a new licence, but after 4 years when they disappear, you would need to upgrade to a two part one if you wanted to clear them off your paper copy.

    Re: Paper Driving Licence

Strictly speaking, I believe the address is 'an address where you can be contacted' which doesn't have to be your home address.

I'm finally getting around to changing my paper driving license because the listed address shortly won't be valid for receiving mail.. Then again, it is falling apart and got soaked from a spill on a kayaking weekend when I forgot to put it in a dry pouch, amongst other things.
