    Flipping washer has broken

Well the washing machine in my flat has decided to come over all 'midlands' and just stopped working with no rational explanation to be found.

After noticing I hadn't heard sounds and expected the quick wash of my gym kit, and other such boring stuff its lights had all gone out. Check RCD, Fuse all fine. Switch it on and off, nothing.

Then the damned thing starts to leak a tiny bit, so I drain it all via the exit filter thingie, and no life in the old girl.

Anyone know where you can get service manuals for AEG gear? I might just skip to the end and replace it with a machine that can actually wash a shirt without creases like the old miele I had when I was renting. How easy are these things to fix, the damn thing is fitted and I don't even know how to remove it :S

and yey, its still dripping, isolated water in, tray on the outlet filter whole, thinking of trying to syphon it a tiny bit, but the idea of syphoning water out of a sewage feed is filling me with "bad idea" thoughts.

Argh! My flat mate is really not helping things either fairly sure the stone won't apprechait bleech cleaning chemical mixing with the washing chemicals, back to mop it with plain warm water again! I don't need sleep tonight obviously

Where abouts is it leaking? Is it the door seal? Or is it some other internal leak? If it is the inlet hose, they are standard washers, availablke from somewhere like B&Q. If it is a door seal or internal seal or part, then you will probably need to go to a specialist supplier.

You can drain the drum just by removing the drain hose and lowering it into a bowl at floor level - gravity takes care of the rest!

    Re: Flipping washer has broken

Its a washer dryer but its fitted so getting it out is a tiny bit of a mission. For now I removed the outlet filter, and let the water drain out that way, it seams to have a release valve there that was seaping very slightly.

Not sure why all the power has gone off thou, I think something somewhere has fused. Decided its better to go do a day's billable work than worry about fixing it thou, will look at it when I get back later tonight.

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

    Re: Flipping washer has broken

Too much of a coincidence that power fails at the same time as the machine springs a leak! Are you sure the RCD hasn't tripped? Use the test button to see if it is tripping. Are the fuses in the fuse box real fuses or Miniature Circuit breakers - have they tripped?

And if the RCD has tripped and won't reset, unplug (not just switch off) the washing machine and then try resetting it. (and if that doesn't work, remove all the fuses - or switch off the MCBs) and then try resetting it - and replace the fuses one at a time to see if any one cct is causing the problem)

If that doesn't work and the RCD won't reseyt, or doesn't operate on the test switch, it is possible (although very unlikely) that the main incoming fuse has failed.

    Re: Flipping washer has broken

In fairness I think the leak started some time after the device had stopped, it might have even been caused by me trying to re-set the thing.

I've tested the earth leakage, its fine. I'm wondering if there is a fuse I've missed somewhere will crack out the multimeter tonight or tomorrow night.

    Re: Flipping washer has broken

Given that the area I live in has a lot of Polish skilled migrants (yey!) I would have thought I could have got a plumber for a LOT less at 10am on Sat, than I could at 11pm on Weds.

Didn't get round to taking it appart, will come straight home from work and fix this issue tonight, or at least figure out if I need to get someone better skilled to fix it!
