Well, now the back room horse trading begins.
Wonderful thing, democracy. We vote, and they get to decide in back rooms who forms a government. Great. Not.
Gah !
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
Bend over Britain and hold your toes.
Still slightly confused as to what will actually happen now?
It was mentioned a few posts ago - either the PM will concede and allow Conservatives to govern a 'minority' government (the right option IMHO despite my dislike of Tory policy), or enough parties will group together to form an overall majority, or enough parties will group together to form a larger 'minority' government.
It will be interesting to see when all 649 have declared who can actually form a coalition.
Conservatives plus Unionists may not be enough, and I doubt we'll see Conservatives plus Lib Dems. Maybe if they agreed to PR though...
Meanwhile, if the Conservatives win 7 or so seats, Labour plus Lib Dem will be insufficient.
wow.... an amazing result lets hope as a result we finally get a true democracy in this country!! PR is needed now and full electoral reform. It seems Tories came out in numbers but the popular vote does not lie. Left/centre is mainstream with 50% of the vote. PR, elected lords and hopefully a democracy at last.
hopefully Rupert Murdoch will no longer dictate to the British people.
Lib Dems 1% up in the share of vote, but down 6 seats. Definitely time for electoral reform! So few seats with 23% share of the vote?!
What will be interesting is to see the Tories argue for First Past the Post now. It's only saving grace is that it supposedly delivers strong governments. It hasn't done this so what has it got going for it? If the tories resist reform, then it will be clear self-interest only is their motivation.
Reading about it, I do quite like the look of STV as a compromise system

Oh, and my guess is that the more over 300 the Tories get, the more likely we end up with a minority Tory government, with at least some LibDem support. After all, it's what Clegg said he said he would do if this happened.
And, I'd guess another election in the 6-18 months is a strong bet too.
Nick Robinson has some interesting commentary on possible coalitions etc.

Well this country just got even more messed up.
Lets do it all again in a few months.
I'll probably vote the same way.
