To be fair to them, they made a bad assumption that their E111 card would be sufficiant for emergancies.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
It seems that the holiday was actually a gift from guests at their wedding:

Don't agree it should be non-optional. The majority of people with half a braincell make their own provision (be it single or yearly cover) often people have cover through their work, and at a more competitive deal you would get from a travel company -would you really want to pay insurance twice? Why penalise the responsible to bail out the feckless?
The guests managed to all chip in and raise hundreds of pounds to fly them out but no one thought to add a tenner for insurance? Genius.

Everybody makes mistakes don't they?
A young woman made a mistake just before a life-changing accident. Nobody should be pilloried having had such a hard lesson.
I wish this young couple the strength to get through this tragic accident. When you're young, healthy and off on honeymoon...well...we should forgive them for having other things on their minds.
Why not? How many people are going to actually die, in the length of time it takes me to write this post, due to simple neglect of modern medicine?
These people are coming from a first world country, ignored all the warnings, ignored conmen sense, and have the audacity to make it seem like its not their fault. It is the same mentality as those who go up on to the moors in bad weather, poorly equipped. Their lifes were no in danger, only having issues arranging travel back.
I get very pissed off with the way so many people don't think before going to foreign realms, the number who didn't check the travel advisory from the foreign office etc.
Personally I can think of many ways that £17k could have been better spent, helping many more souls along the way!

I know. But as intolerance seems to be the order of the day, I thought I'd join in
It was an accident; it's not as if she chose to forego insurance then went abroad and deliberately threw herself off a balcony for the bragging rights.
Like you, I would have insurance but we all make mistakes (fortunately without such tragic consequences) but that doesn't make us idiots.

I think a broken back and in terrible pain is probably a more than a high enough cost for their mistake.
Compassionless, negative threads really help keep the spirit of HEXUS alive.

Its the old adage of building ones house on the sand? If you do, your an idiot, it will be destroyed, quite likely, by the tide. But it might not be, even if it stands, it doesn't make you any less of an idiot.
People are warned, time and time again of the risks involved of going abroad without any insurance, they did this, and an accident happened. They are just as much an idiot as someone who goes abroad without any, and suffers no miss haps.

To be fair I've never had travel insurance and nothings ever happened to me..
These days I begrudge any sort of insurance as they are all a bunch of robbing bastards who rip you off and up premiums etc regardless of actual accidents.
