I'm Proud of the BBC:

I find it astonishing that santa has a problem with the money he is forced to pay for the TV license...but was a lover of the Labour government, who took more money than ever before, and wasted it more abysmally than the BBC could ever do!
You find most things santa says astonishing though
I'm generally a staunch defender of the license fee, but I think santa claus has a point.
I would be in favour of the license fee being cut, and all payments from the BBC to ITV/4/5/infrastructure cancelled. Pay the BBC for BBC content. No license? No BBC channels, no iPlayer, no BBC content. Probably push the radio into the commerical sector since there's no way of monitoring it. Maybe even ads on the BBC website unless you login with your license-payer details.
It would be a massive pain in the neck for me. In fact I'd probably hate it, but it would definitely be a fairer system. Paying the BBC to watch Sky Sports that you're paying Murdoch for already is ridiculous.
what?! value for money? what on earth?
you cant just divide the £142.32 by a year and say its amazing. Simply because you dont need a tv license to have a tv.
theres nothing on to watch at all ever. I mean the only thing that i watch is top gear and F1.
so im paying £142 to watch 6eps of topgear. As bbc has nothing to do with F1 and are just covering it. Also itv were alot better at covering F1 anyway and they arent tv license funded.
you guys carry on paying it, i havent and never will . BBC is just brain washing the public.Big Brother Coverage

Fight the powah!
I hate the license, just the fact it's a TV tax (and it is) but I probably do get some value out of it overall. I do think they should cut content if you don't pay though as mentioned above by someone - No podcasts/iplayer/anything else they can stop (radio would be tricky)
I'm going to try to get rid of it soon, I pay the fee + Sky £20/month so ~ £30-odd/month in total, with iplayer on the PS3, ITV player coming soon & also LOVEFilm coming soon I can get a massive part of my watching for the grand total of £12.99/month
Don't forget you need a TV licence for iPlayer !!! and probably for ITV Player too as the licence covers any TV content as broadcast
Have a look at how the licence fee is spent on the BBC Website and notice that we have one of the cheapest TV licence fees in Europe
The Licence fee is what enables us to have one of the best standards of TV and Radio production in the World, many countries get some of their best content from the BBC.
Now I don't watch much TV, mostly movies as a lot of what is broadcast does not appeal to me, but that's me, it does appeal to the majority. Yes ITV and Channel 4 (perhaps increasingly 5) also make some good quality broadcast material (forgetting appeal), but would that be the case if they didn't have the BBC to measure themselves against ?
I love having World Class broadcasting on TV and Radio covering all spectrums that doesn't have to worry about advertising revenue and scoring viewers because it MUST provide everything.
Take Sky buying Virgin Media content and dropping Bravo because they can get more revenue from Challenge TV !!
The BBC was to drop 6 Music but people complained and they kept it, would SKY listen about Bravo ......
Do you really want 150 channels of home shopping, game shows, and reality TV ?

No you don't!!!
You need a license for TV watched as it is broadcast, iPlayer is pre-broadcast stuff watched on demand (with exception of the odd few live streams) so does not need a license to watch assuming you avoid the aforementioned live stuff
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcintern...re_a_tv_1.html
True technically you don't need a licence for watching pre-screened feeds, but you do if watching live, and the "odd few live streams" is now 9 channels of live feeds (well almost live but classed as live for licensing purposes) for all the main BBC channels.
So yes, if you don't watch any of the live stuff you don't need a licence (at this time), but with the advances being made, especially when the BBC launch the on-demand Freeview services I think this will be changed very soon.
And good to hear you want to watch the pre-broadcast programs and appreciate the quality and standard of the broadcasting, which is only so good because of how it's funded.
