Management of a company shouldn't be able to hold a country to ransom.

Regulators should enforce, and on the whole do a passable job, a vital service been provided.

Competition rules should enfroce fair play, when you see the fines dished out for price fixing etc, these do kinda make sense (there are some I think are retarded thou, like windows without media player......)

    Is it?

Lets take the tube strike, the last time they struck a bunch of brave soles, on a most auspitious day where incredibly inconvienced. Not to mention the whole working Londoners. Why? Because they are going to have more un-manned ticket offices.

My local one is one of the effected. I honestly don't care. If it turns out to be a dire mistake then I'm sure they can reverse it, but the sooner something is done for the travel cost the better. (Many people earn the London living wage, which would mean they have to work for ONE HOUR a day to make their commute on the tube. This is not acceptable, working mobility is required for equality via social mobility surely.)

No this strike is about employees wanting more money, and more shifts. As the person who has to pay for this I resent that deeply, espesually as there is no shortage of people capable of sitting on their arse all day asking people to not obstruct the doors.

I don't want to argue this out (well I kinda do hehe but I won't win) but i'll just say that I totally disagree, and feel that striking does more harm than good to both employer and employee. There are always alternatives, and always better ways of dealing with disputes. We disagree on that I know but then hey life would be boring if everyone agreed with each other, right?

Must be Appointed Rmt Senior Executive. An unfortunate acronym, but one that fits into the context of the Tube Strike (just!)

(Although I'm not quite sure why you would want to sit on one - and no explanation is required! )

    Re: Labour leadership contest

The unions may think that Ed Miliband owes them a favour or two - it remains to be seen if he sees things in the same way.

However it is worth remembering that the unions don't have a block vote as such - each member has their own vote - and although how much influence the views of the union leadership had on the membership is unknown, they can turn round and say "our members voted for the position you took during your campaign" if he deviates from that position. Interesting times for him.
