This shows in my eyes part of what is wrong with society today, lots of people just walking by not giving a toss, recording it on mobile phones and the like, then some old woman comes up and has a go before anyone gets involved..

Quite disgraceful really how all the younger people just stood there while she sprints from god knows where and lays a smack down on them, then when she has done the hard part other members of the public join in.

im not being funny but... they have weapons and are violently smashing in a shop window. This isnt some little scally mugging an old woman, this is something which could pose a threat to anyone who confronts the guys.

Dont get me wrong it amazing that it was the old woman who jumped in and its impressive as hell but if i was there i would keep my distance and call the police, probably record the situation for evidence.

True, and it's quite possible anyone other than an OAP would have got the bat to the head, it's just she was the last thing they expected.

But there were enough public to out numbered and over powered the robbers, if they were really intent on doing anything, old lady or not they would have fought back, but they didn't.

The old woman was stupid to risk herself like that for somebody else's property and in fact would still have been stupid even if it was her property. Its all insured anyway.

I for one would have definitely just got my phone out and recorded it, no way I would get involved in that and I am a fit and healthy 29 year old man. The old woman is an idiot not a hero and she didn't single handedly stop this robbery, as you can clearly see from the video the steel shutters coming down on the jewellery shop stopped it.

One part old lady, one part steel shutters and 98 parts sheer stupidity......would have made more sense to go into the shop and break cabinets inside.

And as for all the bystanders........just goes some way to explaining why we have such a screwed up society in this country now!!.

Bit harsh that. I think she was just obeying the instinct and the values of people of her generation. It isn't fair to call her an idiot when she is of a time when fighting back was what people did.

That said, like you I wouldn't have taken my chances with half a dozen, tooled up thieves, as has been said, the story could have looked a lot messier if anyone but an old lady had intervened.

Well I certainly wouldn't approach a bunch of guys with sledgehammers attacking a shop and I don't imagine many people would! No-one looked in danger until supergran leapt in.

The only reason they didn't cave her head in was probably because she was an old lady....

This is what I was thinking, they probably had a proper WTF moment, and got thrown off / panicked and decided to run (along with failed attempts it seems to smash the window)

Something like this happened in my town, same thing everyone just walked by! however Nibbler are you telling me you wouldn't confront an armed robber if they was in your home? i know 100% i would.

The old lady isn't a hero no, but she isn't an idiot either, like some have said back in her time they just united and fort back.

Nope, it's mindless, not if they were just threatening. If they were attacking my family that's a different matter. What am I going to achieve, I'd maybe try to scare them off if they didn't know I was there but would never start a fight with one.
