    A Few Pics :)

Hope you don't mind me sharing a few pics of our walk yesterday, was a nice day so we decided to take a drive out, only a few minutes up the road.

Pontcysytlle Aqueduct, recently given World Heritage status by UNESCO. Building started in 1795 and finished in 1805 by Thomas Telford, the structure is 126 ft high and 307m long and is the biggest aqueduct in the UK

Definately not for the faint hearted to walk across

Lovely pics, Shelley (esp the last one!)

Brought back some memories too, crossing that aquaduct in a boat on a trip from Birmingham to Llangollen with three school friends in a small canal cruiser. That small holding wall looked very low from the boat!

    Re: A Few Pics :)

That makes me dizzy just looking at the pics!

On a related note, does anyone get the urge to jump off when they are high up on something? I've always felt that, and thought I was a right oddball untill I saw Paul Merton in China and he said the same thing when they put him on the top floor of a massive hotel. Since then I did a little straw poll of friends and family and quite a few people feel the same. Very strange.

Yes, I do. I hate going near an unprotected edge, or low balustrade, or seeing someone else near one.

Well, good as they are, I don't think Shelley was submitting them for critique as a top notch photographer - (or Jon as a "study in thumbs") but more to illustrate a good day out - so I'm happy with them in GD, if everyone else is...

    Thank you

Your braver than me! Ya wouldn't get me on a boat to go through there! Not for all the choklit in Cadbury! Knowing my luck I would fall off somehow!

I was refusing to let go of the rails as we walked across, not even letting go for old people and children! The lovely pub at the end was worth the walk across though

It looks horribly low from the photos - how high is it? Going by picture 5 it can only be a couple of feet - surely there must have been 'incidents'. Can you just go up there at any time? How do they stop kids mucking about?
As opel80uk said, that would compel me to chuck myself over - I don't think it's that uncommon, that feeling.

Giddying but good pictures (and definitely GD material imo)

It's literally inches The narrowboat floorboard is level with that edge Hence the reason you wouldn't get me on one to cross it! I assume you can go up there anytime, and god knows how they stop kids mucking about! I've read of at least one suicide on that bridge

And thank you, I didn't think to put them in the photo section, sorry to those that think they should be

You can go across at anytime (except night unless you haven navigation lights) it is just another part of the inland waterways, run by British Waterways.

Have been going on narrowboats for nearly 30 years but still haven't managed to get to go over it, I prefer to do loops as opposed to 'there and back' and that stretch is a dead end (and without many pubs to stop at).

Maybe one day though, would be an experience.

    Great photos
