Have £6 compensation or leave Negative Feedback on ebay?

Nice and simple...I returned an ebay item to Zavvi and waited for a month for a refund...heard nothing so I left negative feedback.....surprise x2 they contacted me the same day to ask what the problem was and refunded me the following day....
Now they're offering me £6 compensation to withdraw the feedback (item was worth £16.99)...what would you do?

    I think it's £4 for neutral :-)
TBH, I'm not really too bothered now...I was returning the item as I changed my mind....but it's always annoying when you've got to take the nuclear option.....

Probably report them to ebay, tbh. They're trying to buy positive feedback, and I'm pretty sure that's against T&Cs...

Would I accept six quid to be bought off? No. No offence, aeon, but how cheap are you?

Personally, I'd look on it as a civic duty to leave accurate feedback, even if negative, The whole point of feedback is to tell other buyers what kind of seller the seller is. If this company wants better feedback, buck up their customer support. That, after all, is the point of feedback.

So personally, no, I wouldn't remove it for £6. Nor for £60. Nor for £600. I'll have to think more about how cheap I am before I go any further.

Re: Have £6 compensation or leave Negative Feedback on ebay?

Because they offered to 'buy' me I'd be tempted to take it a lot further, did that to a playtrade seller selling grey import games when he tampered with the box my pc game came in (removed shrink wrap + put his business card inside), the import bit didnt bother me, I knew it was hard to get in the uk... it was that he lied about it being sealed when he clearly removed it

After him sending a torrent of abuse reported him to play.com, his local authority (as he was operating a business out of his house and had good reason to suspect he wasnt paying business rates) and a couple of other authorities inc the one that dealt with his website not complying with a number of laws (such as displaying company number, having a contact point that is not an online form etc)

Play.com ended up refunded the money and I kept the game

I guess ebay would just say it's up to the buyer/seller to work it out...

Hmmm, I can't be 100% sure but I think their actions probably fall foul of the ebay feedback manipulation policy, most likely this item:

Not allowed: Offering to sell, buy, barter, or give away Feedback
I'd definitely report it - offering someone cash to improve their feedback rating of a transaction is very shady...

That's illegal, and they clearly have no idea what 'goodwill' means.

Just as an aside, he wouldn't necessarily need to pay business rates. It's a decision based on a number of factors, most notably, whether part or parts of the house are solely for business use, or whether they are mixed business/domestic use. The decision is a case-by-case thing, but I went into that quite carefully with the local authority before equipping a couple of rooms at home with business equipment. I made absolutely sure that they were mixed use. For instance, the "office" is not only for business admin, but for domestic admin too. Sure, I run business accounts but I do domestic management, personal banking, home accounts etc too, and I also use it with a comfy chair as a reading/music listening room, and have CDs, hobby magazines, etc in there. I keep some business stuff in storage in the garage, but I keep a car in there, tools and decorating stuff, lawnmower, etc, too. And so on.

Then, I had a dispute with a neighbour (over their parking) and, lo and behold, shortly after got a visit from the local authority over "business use", so I told them what I did and showed them round. And no business rates followed.

They also tried. or at least I got contact from, the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise, but as I pointed out, I'd been self-employed for years and was declared as such with Inland Revenue and had been VAT-registered for many years, so that came to nothing either. I was, however, probably guilty of wearing a smug grin every time I saw a certain neighbour (thankfully, long gone now) after that.

Anyway, its off-topic, but working from home doesn't necessarily mean you pay business rates. It all depends what you do and how you do it.

That, to be honest, was exactly how I read it.

Had they apologised and offered compensation, fine. But to link the "compensation" to withdrawal of the (justified) negative feedback smacks of a bribe, and if so, I'd be insulted at that notion, and badly insulted that they though £6 might do it.

A sincere apology for the oversight, by itself, and I might remove the feedback. But what at the very least looks like an attempt to bribe, even if not meant that way, comes across as insulting.

I am confused here... Did you get your 16 quid back? Are they offering you an extra 6 quid to withdraw the comment or are they only offering you 6 quid instead of your complete money back?

If its an extra I probably would accept it. After all a 37% return on investment over a month period is not bad.

If its 6 quid of my original 16 quid (10 quid loss), I would tell them to take a hike and spend a bit more and go to a small claims court, and report them to ebay.

I ordered Fallout 3 at the start of February with some other things. It was in stock when I ordered it but not when the other stuff was dispatched. My card was charged for the whole order, including Fallout 3. Dozens of emails and just a few responses later, I finally got the game in the middle of June. I was trying to either cancel and get my money back or get the game but every time they responded to say they were looking into it, I never got a follow up.

    I'm avoiding them now.
