The english team got complacent and started playing silly buggers. The goalie was too busy watching the ball sail into the back of the net than trying to save it, then dived and proceeded to cause another penalty kick.

Tbh, i'd blame ur goalie, not the french, they were playing footy.

I also thought that rooney was being a right rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish and should have been taken off (or sent off) a lot sooner.

BTW, believe it or not, i was backing england till they started their nonsense

Hmm. I feel that you are wrong. Rooney wasa live wire. Little Michael Owen on the other hand was poo. Although James is officially poo, the free kick was unsavable and the 2nd goal was gerrards fault. There. I said it. I still agree that heskey is poo tho.

    So true

BTW I'm not english! I'm from Northern Ireland! I'll support any of the home nations as well as Ireland in any match. Will totally be behind NI to pull out a shock win over england in the world cup qualifying group

My humble appologies good sir. Rogue, have you a point on me.

Right, now we can hammer the Swiss and Croatia, and put this nightmare behind us. (We hope)

    Excusez-moi.

Now, King to stay in the team when Terry is fit, or drop him for Terry regardless of his man-of-the-match (almost) display against the French?

I thought it was a good match up until about the 90th minute...

Oh well, its only the first match, its not the last!

TBH i blame Sven. After he started with his substitutes, everything went wrong. Why take Rooney off?!?! He was doing excellent! Sven should've subbed Owen i think.

I agree, certainly had me on the edge of my seat! Defense was solid, midfeild also, and Owen might have well have been sent off! Anyone spot where he was hiding? lol. We fell apart at the 90min mark, thought it was ours...sadly, we learnt the hard way. Still, games left.... /me crosses fingers.

Defence was solid till Heskey decided to bungle someone down just outside the box. FFS did he not realise doing that would put the best footballer in the world over the ball and one final chance to score against us.

despite playing well, rooney was getting a bit feisty & imho one more dodgy challenge & he'd have definitely ended up with a card, just my 2p

beckham missing a penalty tho - ffs, at that level thats inexcusable

I would go as far to say he didn't miss. It was saved. It wasn't a bad penalty, good save by that a**hole Barthez.
I blame it on Hesky (See latest thread).

EDIT - Don't see latest thread, keep all discussion about Euro 2004 in this thread only.

    Cheers,

    Vaul.
