I think it even depends on which line your working on too, some have more militant unions than others.

RMT chairman Bob Crow who earns more than the directors of TFL, would make a brilliant monopolist.

Yet the SE annual rail fares have increased by 5.9% making a season ticket from Ramsgate to London £5.5k

Re: Tube strikes - Boxing day!

So, we either pay them triple pay or let them go on strike and don't pay them anything?

Also, I would guess the 43 days holiday includes 8 bank holidays (it's the way it works for us), so if they work Boxing Day, they simply get to use the day another time and therefore don't need another day off in lieu. Besides, if I had to work next week (and there are plenty of people who are working over Xmas, both in this country and OOA), I wouldn't get any extra pay at all.

    ...I'm in the wrong job!

    Wheres the application form

43 Days Holiday, 50k a year and triple pay on 'special' days. Plus a union that seems to be able to get anything it wants.

I'd most definitely have a 3XS system then

Re: Tube strikes - Boxing day!

In fairness I think the £50k a year includes the pay from the special days.

I think the basic is only about £40k, which for a job that doesn't really require anything special, half of them can't even speak English clearly (the announcements are of course automatic, but some of them find it easier to press the talk button than locate the "please stand clear of the doors" button again)

£5.5K for a season ticket? (if there was a dropped jaw emoticon it'd be on there as well).

Yeah that's crazy money. I only pay £680 a year for gold season ticket, but i still always buy it at the year before prices in December to beat the rises for a year, feel for people who do the same but have to fork out around £5k though - ouch!

Re: Tube strikes - Boxing day!

Perhaps you should show these upstarts that you don't need them and travel around your fair City just like the rest of the Country i.e. with no tube at all. Then, when you're drunk and expecting to be ferried around by someone working on a public holiday, you can fork out the taxi fare instead. See how much that costs you .

*only* wouldnt be the way I'd phrase it.

Perhaps I am being unfair but it's far from my definition of a skilled job.

Heck it's not a kick in the arse off air traffic controllers salary, I know who I think earns the money...
