Gotta be Metallica for me too.

I only recently started listening to their stuff but I really fo like them.

For my tastes, it just aint proper music without some guitars, drums and loudness

Radiohead - who else has continued to push the boundaries of what we call 'music' so well?

Just go listen to The Bends. Every single song is a classic. Hardly even know any Metallica songs (although I'm sure I would do if anyone wanted to lend me some albums).

well erm. I like metallica but I have to say Radiohead. Probably by far. Reasons for this is they are the most tallented of the two and never fail to release something new and exciting. I never understood why people say they are boring. None of their music sounds the same although it is running in the same Genre (like mr bazz said, Experimental rock) People will say metallica are the more tallented but that is just down to some of the solos. On the technical side and the way radiohead structure their music and manage to write a song with to different time signatures at the same time (pyrimid song, The Piano is hard enough to work out the time signature but then the drum beat comes in and doesnt have one) The are amazing. Also They are nice and layed back about it. They write music because they enjoy it. Lets face it after Metallica went crazy about napster and then released St.Anger you know they just want the fame and money. There was nothing behind that album. It was all relativly simple "Drop D" chord patterns.

edit: Oh yeah. radiohead write some of their own software for recording and sound editing. Also Mr.Jonny Greenwood designs and builds half of those funky gizmos that he uses on stage to make all the cool sounds.

Also thom Yorke see's colours in his head when he plays and hears different music. It is some cross wiring in his brain that usually comes with very tallented musicians. I cant remember which ones xactly but lots of famous classical composers had that same thing

I think radiohead have ventured into alot more styles than metallica. And youd be suprised at how tallented guitarists they are. Some solos like in paranoid android and stuff are fantastic. Not neccesaraly fast but just hard to play and nice sounding.

Bits of the solo for One by metallica

    E-19p15p12--19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-|

    B-19p15p12--19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-19p15p12-|

    B-20p15p12--20p15p12-20p15p12-20p15p12-20p15p12-20p15p12-20p15p12-20p15p12-|

and so on.. is relativly simple. Its just played at a million miles per hour.

You can't really compare st anger to any of radioheads good stuff, its nu metal a year to late tbh, despite liking the album compared to older albums it bites ass in a big way.

The solo's aren't hugely difficult really, i've just been looking at the tabs for them.

But all the is kinda beside the point imo, the question should not be which is the better band as both have good arguments for them. But which will be remembered in 15/20years time?

Despite Radiohead constantly pushing the boundaries metallica have got some truly amazing and classic songs that will never be forgotten, like the one, ride the lightning, nothing else matters, sad but true..........the list goes on and on.

Radiohead are more diverse within they're genre but metallica have a range aswell, they don't just play one kind of song.

I think in the end its gonna come down to personal taste......
