Yes there's the whole health and safety at work thing, but since when have piercings been a health or safety hazard? it's not like i sit playing with my ears all day...
That's the idea. In practice however.....

Health and safety is an issue. What if you work with magnets?
Seriously though if you're by a machine, they could get ripped out.

i do hope you're kidding me....

Magnets? you do know that surgical steel (which most of my jewellery is) is hardly magnetic at all, hence why, with 14 piercings, i can suggessfully go through airport security without it going off.

As for machinery, how do you propose this machine "rips" my pircings out? will it rip all my clothes off to get to them? Surely if it's likely to get to my piercings i'd have to be doing something really stupid for it to do so... like sticking my head inside it or something? Dont be so bloody obtuse.

no, it's exactly the same thing. Religion is as much of a choice as piercings, especially in this day and age when most people can see that religion is a load of tosh.

Ok you might have been brought up with religion, but by the time you're going for an interview you're old enough to make your own choice about whether or not you follow that religion still. It annoys me immensely that people get special treatment because of their religion (ie seekhs allowed to wear the headgear but if a non-religious wanted to wear a cap in same situation they get told to remove it.)

no i have respect for it, but no more respect than for Emzay's decision to have piercings...it is exactly the same thing, just because one is a recognised religion and one isn't doesnt make it any different.

Yes it is, in some jobs, in my job I was no-where near food preparation or dangerous equipment i was sat scanning stuff and putting it in plastic bags. How in any sensible way unless a customer decides to lick my face is it a hazard. No-one said they weren't a problem in every job but in most places in a supermarket they are of no hazard.

And your distinct lack of respect for many other peoples beliefs, if it is his choice (along with myself and many others) to believe that organised religion is a waste of space then you should be just as respectful of his belief as he should and has been of yours, did he call you an asshole for believing in a religion?

Now stop arguing or i'll turn this car around and no-one will get to go to disney land!

I actually agree with Tom, but we're not talking about religion right now. I was simply comparing one's choice to follow a certain religion, which requires wearing of headgear that is allowed because it's their religion, to one's choice to following a certain way of decorating yourself with piercings and tattoos, which are not allowed because it is not recognised in any way other than by those who also tattoo and pierce themselves. (if all that makes sense)

This thread has been heavily edited by me.

I've just spent the last half hour editing this thread, because some people don't seem to be able to play nice.

Direct insults are NOT tolerated here - look at the rules. Without naming the people responsible, will they PLEASE read the rules - because they ARE putting their accounts here at risk if they overtly insult other members.

Also, if anyone feels they have been insulted, the correct response is to call a Mod's attention to it - and NOT to fling insults back. That's what the "Report to Moderator" button is for (it's the Exclamation mark button we all have under the Avatar in every post).

Insulting other members will not be tolerated, even if you feel you were insulted first.
