Made me laugh that someone thinks tea can only be made with recently boiled water; very hot water doesn't cut it for tea, has to be at the point where water is about to become gaseous before it can be used for tea despite that being way too hot to drink...
    At standard pressure of course.

Yeah, they take 'freshly-drawn' water a bit seriously. Something about water not tasting the same if it's boiled too much. Virtually everyone at work seems to be of this persuasion, leading to wasting of water and latent energy.

And that water has to be drawn from a mountain spring 18 minutes before dawn. The spring outlet must face 87.5 degrees from local magnetic north (obviously) and must be carried in a stabilized container to prevent bruising.

Apart from that, it isn't really that critical.

Sooooo, what if you condense water vapor and boil that? Freshly drawn from where exactly?

    If you're trolling me.....

I know someone who's become one of these tea purists... I find it very bizarre. I mean it's just tea. Once you've worked on a building site you're grateful if it's in a clean mug, never mind its consistency or whether the water was re-boiled. In fact if it wasn't boiled don't touch it with a barge pole. Goodness knows what's in it.

There's no legal limit on the age on tap water either. Depending on where you live (mainly dependent on climate [and location, obviously]) it could have spent up to 4 days in pipes.

Re: 1600 W maximum on vacuum cleaners from from Sept!

    Fresh is the wrong word to use as it gives a false impression of what is required to brew a quality cup of tea. What is actually key, in this case, is dissolved Oxygen content. Which repeated boiling significantly reduces. However for the following reasons this is not significant for the most part;

    1. Majority of tea consumed is of similar quality to PG Tips or worse
    2. Brewed for far less than the optimum time
    3. Mixed with more milk than required
    4. Often drank whilst containing sugar to sweeten

The only other aspect of water quality that matters is "hardness", as increasing mineral content has a deleterious effect on the taste. As well as increasing the amount of tea cream that is formed as it cools.
If Wisdom is the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and its deliberate use to improve well being then how come "Ignorance is bliss"

Just so we're all clear....serious Sam genuinely can tell tea apart from two different kettles/ water supplies etc

With the exception of my missus he's the only person I know with such a clevet pallette.

His is however expertly balanced to tea ( from work and professional experience)... Beer....I've shared a lot of that experience....Stilton and port....ditto.....

But tea really is his thing!

However....re boiling a kettle really is a bad idea for your electricity bill.... That's common sense

But to have a kettle be really low powered and take longer than it does now would wind me up a treat!!

    It's not " just tea" though...is it?

Bad tea is horrible.....a waste of time effort and energy!

Cheap tea.....a crap blend....it's like cheap lager or a bad Chinese meal.....it's a total waste and horrible!

But I've moved back to tea....

You're lucky it's not about coffee....

Now that I really CAN rant about and I've had some great coffee..and some horrors!

Within Europe tea drinking is a predominantly English activity, so don't expect much sympathy/understanding for higher power kettles that boil water quicker.

I'd not thought of that Pete...you're right. In fact... Now I think about it....I've been in Spain and seen no kettle in some places!
