hey! I got out! to be honest the congestion charge is another 'great labour invention' and they're planning to extend it to include kensington & chelsea and westminster i.s. the rich part of town. you don't see them including anywhere further east do you?
labour sent round a questionaire about 'whether the CC is a good idea, and would you like it expanded'...thing is the questions were all pointed and being a multi choice they omitted the 'choice' to say that its cr*p. needless to say that enraged pretty much all the residents of said areas - being well educated and able to see right thru labours poor attempt at fobbing them all off. I know of many people who wrote letters of complaint, and these aren't just mrs goggins types theses are high court lawyers and business men considered in the higher tier of the business world...

labour = rob the rich, and the poor.

I work in London and cannot get in via public transport because I work shifts......make the trains/buses/tubes run 24/7 then start charging!

Aye, Public transport is horrible. I have used the Tube everyday for the past 3 years, and during rush hour its awful....

24/7 service would be great, especially on fridays and saturdays.

Best way to cure congestion would be to make the tubes run 24/7. This would mean that in the evenings people could use the tubes to get home instead of Taxis. Suddenly taxi driving becomes less profitable, and there are a few thousand less taxis clogging up the roads and causing congestion throughout the day. Then put the charge up to £8 and charge £20 for Taxis.

I drive a company vehicle through the city during the day, and it is essential to the running of my company that I be able to do so. It is a health and safety requirement. There is no requirement for any overpaid executive to make a taxi screech to a stop on a red route, jam up traffic for a few minutes, and causing a massive hazard to other road users, whicle he wedges his fat, overpaid backside through the door and tells the braindead taxi driver where to go. The tube is quicker and safer, and with the right money put towards it (and the execution of one union leader) it could be the mass transit system it was designed to be.

every londoner knows that the transport system is a completely hopelss one that need revamping in a serious way, but due to poor management and money handling existing system has become broken dwon and requires repairs constantly - thus tons of money goes on repairs - since a transport system is NEEDED they kind of have to just do things on the run.
I fully agree that its not on to continue charging more and more each year just for teh privelage of using a system taht is on the whole dirty, poor value, not as helpful as it makes out and a pain in the *rse now that the CC has been brought in. soon it wont matter tht theres a CC, a bus wont be much cheaper and I know what i'd choose! utter f*ing rip off if you ask me, bus drivers are more often than not rude and obnoxious, and the tube staff are lazy over paid good for nothings that feel they can hold a city to ransom by striking so they can get more pay. if all the nurses did that god only knows what would happen! makes you wonder though eh, nurses are like gold dust - care for the sick etc, I say if these muppets continue demanding money, sack 'em. maggi thatcher had no worries about breaking these groups up with brute force...but labour are the sort of government that get behind these type of groups...
i reiterate: rob the rich etc..

To be fair, traffic has to be controlled some how.

You all complain when theres traffic in London and it takes you 5 hours to get to work dont you?

And do you think the Torys would get rid of the system? No, they actually backed the plan. You say Labour's plan is feed the rich and **** the poor, yet this is not discriminating against anyone, except those who choose to do a journey that is perfectly do-able by train or bus or even bike, yet decide to drive to work in there Porsche Cayenne instead...

Oh and yes, public transport isnt great, but it does exist, and it needs us to use and support it in order for the Government to better it...

    *sighs* everyone is so pessamistic....

Congestion Charging is not going to stop the traffic in london, people will just end up paying...

Instead of finding a way to rob us all, how about finding some tube staff to work at night

good! and i hope they do extend it as well. it's improved central london a lot - less traffic, less pollution and faster buses and taxis. nothing is more infuriating that wasting your time on a stationary bus.

the prices on my oyster card only went up by 10p a journey (that's 80p for any single bus journey, or £1.70 for zone 1 tube to zone 1 tube ), and the improvements on the tube are slowly coming along. it's not easy upgrading a system which has been so poorly funded for so long.

by the way, they can't run the tube 24/7 because it wasn't originally designed like that. new york can tun theirs 24/7 because they have two tunnels each way, meaning they can close one off to maintain it and keep the trains running. unless you want st. stephen's tower turning into the leaning tower of piza.

crossrail will hopefully lighten the load on some of the most congested tube routes, and with some time, the transport network will be running properly for once.

Erm, other than the simple fact that it has reduced traffic...

You wont need to pay the CC if you work unsocial hours, will you?
