How could they lose their jobs? Surley it's be unfair dismissal if the reason was they were going out together?

Depends what the law is like about stuff like that in the States, but either way if things get spread around and rumours start which affect how they work or are perceived etc the company can pretty much always find a way to get rid of you. Especially if she is a manager.....
