After such a definite and clear majority, I'm glad that the people who voted Remain and like to complain a lot will now accept Brexit and move on with their lives as happy and fulfilled individuals, and the internet can go back to cat videos and pornography.

How fast that "fast track" will be remains to be seen.

Still, it looks like we will shortly get to start the process of finding out whether Brexit will follow the predictions of the doomsayers, or the hopes of the optimists. We should have a better handle on that in 10 years, at least.

It'll also be interesting to see the EU's reaction to a government with a majority big enough to get things done in the commons, rather than the last three years of bickering, obfuscation and dithering. At the very least, they should approve of getting on with it, rather than negotuating with a PM and then watching to see if she/he can get it through Parliament.

    You think?

    I wouldn't bet on it.

I hope Scotland can have a Second Referendum, and ten years is a reasonable time frame. But if nothing has bean learned from Brexit, it's that there should be a clear plan in place for implementation. If the referendum includes a return to EU membership, then there needs to be an agreement in principle for that to happen, before the referendum. Similarly, the funding of the country needs to have some kind of plan this time, that doesn't rely on some ill-defined claim on ownership of the UK oil industry.

Even ignoring the inevitable Spanish veto, ten years is long enough for the longer term effects of Brexit to be seen, and there will be some pretty big changes in the EU over that time. With the current civil unrest in France, I'd expect them to have an EU referendum after their next Presidential Election in 2022. Meanwhile with France and Germany both having economic struggles, there may not be any support for adding another country to the EU that is a significant net recipient. Even if membership were possible, the EU is unlikely to have the same attraction to the Scottish as it did in 2016.

Some are suggesting that perhaps a federal UK is the way to head in the future.

Well, Brexit by the end of Jan, let's see if that happens or not, I didn't vote for BoJo but given the mess and dithering from the Labour camp not entirely surprised by this, as long as we can actually make a decision and start moving forward as a country, even Sterling has jumped up alreayd so let's go...

Definitely. London is a different beast compared to the rest of England in terms of economics, politics and intellect. At some point the Tories will be purged from London.

Using the Sterling movement when it suits your argument and belittle it when it don't. The Brexit arguments have only reached the level of kindergarten debate. The Brexiters only won because they exploited a group of people who just couldn't know any better.

Indeed. Despite my pleasure at seeing Labour absolutely smashed this time around, it doesn't change my views on Brexit in any way and I would still be more than happy for any remaining Tory rebels & the EU to try and frustrate the process/water down the eventual result in any way they can

Sadly this election fixes nothing about Brexit imo, it doesn't heal any wounds or resolve any differences. To get anywhere near that we'd need a fairly "medium" brexit with some massive compromises from both leave & remain on freedom of movement & free market - neither of which will happen.

Still, could be worse. We could be having the same conversation about Brexit with Corbyn in charge

Well, the Remoaners in my industry will never be happy, because leaving will royally frak our jobs, our careers and much of our industry. All this talk about making Britain great again, all independent, strong and stable... yet they want to do it by crippling the one thing that's still making us a profit.

For the record, most Remainers (myself included) had accepted the vote about five minutes after it was counted, and have since been waiting for everyone else to just pull their fingers out and GET ON WITH IT!!!!!

Well, I've already seen one bloke get up and defect in the middle of Boris's speech... He was one of our local candidates, incidentally.
Given how fickle people have been in terms of supporting and endorsing their own flippin' party so far, I wouldn't be surprised if there has been some 'tactical standing for election' just like there has been 'tactical voting', whereupon something happens to bring it all crashing down again.

The government is an absolute [CENSORED]-shower this decade.

Be careful saying 'Remoaner', it usually adds a lot of excessive whining..

Also, why do you need to be able to keep and bear arms? It's far easier to just rely on grabbing a handy Narwhal tusk whenever necessary...

We may get more moderate Brexit now. Just as Johnson no longer has to factor in the DUPs views or court opposition MPs he can also afford to upset the ERG as well.

1/. Quarterstaves are in short supply these days, to the point where you either bring your own or go without. By comparison, Narwhale tusks are even rarer, and I'm rather against hunting like that.
2/. To prove a point (several points, actually) to my gun-toting Yankee-boy friends who think giving us all guns is in any way a good idea with our already high crime rate.
3/. Because having the right to something is in no way any guarantee of actually being able to have it... but I'd like to have the right anyway, purely out of principle... and if we're going to become Federal like the Yanks, then we should at least consider some of their more popular benefits, no?

I'd argue that it's more dependent on where you live and what newspaper you read.

The Tories hasn't made any headway in London despite the national picture. In fact, they were lucky not to be one seat down if they didn't win the Kensington seat by just 20 votes.
