    Cat Woman - The usual advice is as follows;

    1. Don't for at least an hour before going to the gym and then eat within 30 mins of finishing. I tend to have snack about 4pm having had lunch at noon.

    2. Eating later in the evening then its ok as long as your up for at least 3hrs after you eat. In addition, you need to avoid complex carbs as these take longer to digest. Thus, vegetables / protein / fruit and salad are good at this point

    3. In order to maintain energy levels eat a little and often. Eating your complex carbs earlier in the day (breakfast and lunch).

    4. As 5cupa says - avoid caffeine drinks and stay hydrated whilst training

    Any other questions just ask, though I'd need to know specific aims. As various members will attest eating & training are a bit more than a hobby for me

    No you don't, more lighter reps will do you far more good as it keeps the heart rate up for longer, e.g, I do 85 reps per arm with a 20lb weight in one position and then change position and do the same again, I've used heavier weights in the past and you don't see as much improvement in mucsle tone at all.

    Knox, I'm pretty sure its established that to build muscle you do short, heavy, intense reps.

    So be quiet or I'll give you a slap. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

    And I'm not a nutter, so you'll be thrown off guard when I attack without screaming 'the dog told me to do it'.

    Er no actually - you can build muscle by doing all types of reps, they just build different types of muscle and to different extents. The key for building muscles is doing things to failure and with the correct form, i.e. not cheating or doing them fast - slow and low thats the tempo

    And no arguing - or I'll drop a brick outhouse on you
