I regularly get stuck behind people doing 20 in a 30. However, what annoys me is those people doing 30 on NSL roads. It's as if they forgot their highway code completely and that the white, circular sign with the black line means they can do 60mph.

Yeah that's true. Except, like DKMech illustrated in the other thread, where it's ridiculous to DO the limit. Some roads just aren' flat enough, others are single track and you hvae to keep stopping

Considering they are mainly learners, no. What's the rush? Why do people feel they have to get everywhere a few seconds quicker than everyone else?

You said yourself you take care in some 30 zones, why not take care in all 30 zones? I'm not saying everyone should drive at 20, but it certinaly doens't hurt.

Minimum Speed Signs. They come in different minimums. Why do you think Mopeds are banned from Motorways? Too slow .

Also, in threads like these, especially on another forum (not mentioning names), I see a lot of people arguing that speeding is fine so long as 'you're sensible'.

    This is ridiculous.

The problem with going over 70mph is that, in the event of something happening, you're reducing your chances of survival. You have less reaction time, more stopping distance, etc, etc. It's all very well saying 'as long as you're sensible' but sensibility won't prepare you for the unexpected. I lost control of my car at 110mph on the M6, it wasn't particularly busy, maybe 6 other cars around me. But I fishtailed across 2 lanes for some considerable distance before regaining control. I feel lucky I survived. It was daft to be doing that speed to begin with but since then I've stuck to 70mph, of course I'll sometimes drift to 80mph but soon correct things. The people who say 'as long as you're sensible' haven't yet experienced 'the unexpected'. I'm sure if they did they might think otherwise.

there is the issue of having to "make reasonable progress" I got failed on my driving test for going too slowly. there is a point where going 20/25 in a 30 goes too far.

Over here a lot of the roads past schools are 40 limits most of the day. at lunchtimes, and at the start and end of the school day - signs light up limiting to 20. And there's a policeman at each end for an hour. I've not seen anyone speeding through them. Like Zak ays - better detterent to have the threat of getting stopped there and then than a silly yellow box, that may or may not have film in it - you end up paying more attention to the damned thing to see if it's flashed or not than the road in front. Idiocy - AND laziness on behalf of the bureaucrats who thought the buggers up.

thats cruel and harsh. He is pointing out that slow drivers can cause accidents. Which is true. Witness any hay wagon down a country lane. It is not acceptable to simple dawdle along behind it, as we have cars to save us journey time, not to go along slowly in.

Same rules with a 50 mph car in the central lane on as motorway. Speeding is not selfish unless it endangers lives. If it doesn't, then how is it selfish? How is 85 mph on a dry empty road selfish? Only in the same way as sitting in the middle lane of an EMPTY motorway doing 40 mph would be.

But what about doing 20 mph in a 40 limit for 10 miles? Would it be acceptable? Or WOULD you try to overtake and to do it safely, would you EXCEED the speed limit for a short time to reduce your TED.

LOL, that's nice to see, a man taking time out to prove me wrong!

Well, I haven't even seen those 50's before, but I did say earlier that 50 should really be the slowest you should go on a motorway. Perhaps I have seen one and subconsciously taken note, but forgot about it?

I never said that people should be able to drive at whatever speed they want. 50 in the middle lane is dangerous, I agree, but what I was trying to point out (and this is totally crazy) is that people are complaining about others driving too slowly, but seem happy to let people drive too quickly.
