my only point is - do you actually know *anyone* who died of bowel cancer? sure, you may be 30% more likely to get it if you eat nothing but red meat all your life, but what does it matter if its 30% of 0.000001% chance? we've all gotta die sometime - i'll take my chances
could it just be that people who eat more than 160g of meat every day (thats only a 1/4er tbh) are just fatter?

Yep, fresh air is now officially cancerous, one lung full too much and poof it's curtains for you. They are thinking about banning the Scottish Highlands, the Lake District and parts of Wales for being too clean.Originally Posted by shiato storm
Excercise is also cancerous. In a study on two hundred and fifty five and a half white mice it was found that 65.2% of them developed cancer after excercising too much in their wheels whilst the other half all died from obesity related diseases.
It's just like the Suden 1 scare. Hey we force fed 100 mice three times their own body weight in Suden 1 for 90 days. We found 50% developed cancer. Logic Suden 1 causes cancer so ban it from the food chain. Ok I made that up but the levels that you would have to injest to have a risk would be more than the most ardent fan of Lea & Perrins could take!
Personally I'll take these findings with a pinch of (heart attack inducing) salt.

Note how they group together red meat and processed meat as if they were the same thing.
The same way they group together deaths and serious injuries when they talk about road accident rates.
It's a scam, designed to mislead.
Did you know that Ghandi, Mother Theresa and Hitler, between them, had a link to the Nazis?

It's usually more of an 'old age' illness (more exposed to that sorta thing when you're older). Anyway, cancer is pretty much statistically inevitable so long as you aren't killed off by other means (at least according to my Uncle, who's been a doctor for the last 15 years). Like I say, the chances bowel cancer specifically will affect you, rather than all the other forms of cancer/disease is slim- the chances are that changing your lifestyle to avoid it will just make you more vulnerable to something else.
I'd rather die 5 years earlier than waste hours worrying about unavoidable problems, to be frank.
yeah. it'll probably give you cancerOriginally Posted by Stoo

The statistics don't add up anyway - they're not distinguishing between cause and effect.
The kind of person that eats THAT amount of red meat is the same person that doesn't eat vegetables or fruit or exercise. Think "MuckDonalds" twice a day....
It's similar to the red wine is healthy rubbish - the lifestyle of the person that has a glass or 2 of red wine with his/her meal, or in the evening, is also the kind of person that'll be eating a varied diet and probably doing some exercise.
A Chav eating 2 Big Macs a day and drinking 2 glasses of red wine will live just as long as any other Chav without the red wine (i.e. too long)
Media just love to create panic. As has been said, just take things in moderation. Have a balanced diet (if you have to eat meat ).
We all die of something, it just seems that we need to balance the excess in our lives so all these hazards get us in one go.

I'm sorry but if anyone ate 3 proper meals for the whole of their life which consisted of red meat then you are more likely to die from heart disease than bowl cancer. all that fat, etc just wouldnt be healthy. And i seriously think you would be hard pushed to find anyone that eats this actual quantity of meat every day!
Well thats the end of me, I work part time in a Butchers and get free meat, sausages and stuff all the time and would eat quite a bit of red meat in a week. 160g is not a lot of meat thats 6oz. Though I also eat quite a lot of pasta and get some excercise. My view is that people who get bowel cancer as a link to red meat didnt exercise enough or have a balanced diet.
hmmm body builders would eat a lot of red meat, I wonder if there is a higher percentage of bowel cancer among body builders.
Then again perfectly healthy people can get it too, you cant win really.
