Take the mileage; that's what the company's agreed is the rate and that's what you should claim.
Be sensible - go for the £32.67 you filled up for.
Rip their arm off... 40p per mile all the way!!

How is this even a moral dilemma? You are due that money. That's what the 40p a mile is for!

40p a mile wouldn't cover travel expenses for me :/

Your work will work out what they think is a fair rate for mileage taking into account wear and tear on any vehicle, servicing costs, depreciation (due to mileage if you did 300m per week) etc. 40p is a fair rate and seems to be common.
You are not doing anything fraudulant because you are telling the truth with regard to the amount of mileage actually travelled. If you claim 300 miles then that's not on.
So take the cash. If you still feel guilty then give half the "profit" to a charity of your choice.

The company you work for isn't giving you 40p/mile out of the goodness of their hearts.
You're owed 40p/mile, so take it.
34 against 1 so far?
Think you've got the answer :-)
Probably off doing the claim right now........
Take it! take it take it take it! (Saying that I probably wouldn't myself because I'm too paranoid-foolish!!)
There's a thin person in every fat person.....that's because they just ate them.
most companies will give 40p/mile for the first 2000ish miles, the 15p/mile thereafter. the idea if you did, say 10000 miles a year for work, and 0 other miles, their money would pay for the petrol, the insurance, the tax, the other running costs and the depreciation. so yes, claim for the lot. everyone else does, and its a nice little earner. I once clocked up more than the value of my car (£100) in just 2 days

Yup well you've all helped me make my mind up!!
Didnt really take much convincing tbh but for some reason it just doesnt sit straight with me off the mark. But like you say, if thats what they pay then thats what they pay - everyone else who does non-company car mileage gets paid the same and there is no reason why I shouldnt too. Besides which I can put the extra money towards the new exhaust I had fitted last weekend!!
Or more likely..... spend it down the pub!!!!!!
Ps. TiG - of course I was insured!!
If you're not living on the edge, you take up too much room
you have your answer my dear. take the money. puts you some £80 better off, if you do it enough then even better, rack up as much as you can!

claim the mileage rate - that's very high (we used to be capped at 12p per mile or petrol whichever was higher)
