    Work Moral Dilemma

Ok, so those of you who know me will know I dont have any morals but.......

Drove all the way to Bristol and back yesterday for work, clocked up 296 miles in all - Im now having a moral battle with myself about the expenses claim.

You see the thing is I filled up before I left and it cost me £35.67 of which I didnt use the whole tank. However work reimburse Private Car mileage at 40p per mile to cover wear and tear etc as well as petrol. Well do the math that works out at £118.40 - nearly 3 and a half times the amount of expense I actually incurred!!!!
Result right??!!!! Except im one of the company's accountants and it just doesnt sit right in my head.

So what do I do?? Put in a claim for the amount on my petrol receipt or for the 40p a mile?
Hexus - its up to you to decide..... Ive attached a poll for the fun of it!!
If you're not living on the edge, you take up too much room

I claim milage for everything, put it this way, although I make 3 times as much by doing milage try telling that to my wallet which has a potential £400 repair bill coming up this week, Im out of pocket, even after claiming milage, besides, your an accountant sticking to the books, if you worked for enron then Id say submit the receipt, they need all the help they could get lol

What happens if say next week your fanbelt goes or say another thing goes wrong with the car and you take it to a garage and in the back of your mind you know the extra milage has attributed to this but didn't claim the expenses back. You will end up out of pocket.

Claim it. end of the day - put the extra away to pay for spare parts or repairs for when something decides to give up the ghost on the car, or you decide to go and do some nice 180's in the dark again

If they're prepared to pay 40p per mile, you're doing absolutely nothing morally wrong by taking it. They're going to be fully aware that it will cost people less. You're entitled to it.

If you don't get 40p/mile from your company, you can claim the excess as a deduction in your Tax Return (Detached Duty Relief)

    Also, don't forget.

That 40pence/mile covers running costs, insurance, petrol, tax etc.

Claim the 40p/mile, thats the best way

Car has got company business use insurance too i hope?

If you factor that into the cost it sure does need to be 40p a mile.

Take the money, and don't feel guilty about it. Car reviews in one of the magazines (Auto Express?) always have a ppm running cost figure, and it's always a lot more than 40p even for the cheapest cars.

Another - take the money and run.

You're entitled to it - claim it.

You'd be a fool not to.

Definatley claim the mileage... I don't think thats immoral at all!! Wear and tear on your car, oil, tyres etc all adds up.
    That's why they say 40p/mile...

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
