    As I mentioned previously, if your employer is not giving you 40p/mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p/mile thereafter, you can claim the balance back against the PAYE tax in a Self-Assessment tax return.

    What schmunk said. If the Inland Revenue says it's legit- and they do, I checked on an unrelated matter two days ago- who are we to argue?.

    i currently get 53p/mile for the first 3500miles.... and after that... it drops to 20.5p a mile.

    I certainly wont be exceeding my 3500 mile limit... so its all roses for me made £60ish last week from a short 100 mile trip out... which included shopping in Durham

    dont feel guilty about taking the money.... tyres aren't cheap... neither is decent oil... or exhausts... or driveshafts. etc... etc... etc....

    The extra 13p/mile is a taxable benefit which you should declare on a SA tax return.
