    Parking problems....help

Well I'd thought I'd seek the advice of the great >HEXUS< unwashed....

I(We) recently bought a flat with a garage, parking should be easy as each of the 60 flats has it's own garage and there are about 40 'visitor' parking spaces...

My garage is at the end of the block with some 'spare' ground in front of it. This ground is marked with double yellow lines and a NO PARKING sign. If someone parks there they properly restrict my access.

So this car has been parking there every evening ever since I moved in, like it's a private parking spot.

I've put NO PARKING leaflets on it most nights just under it's windscreen wipers....last Friday I used Pritt stick to stick 2 leaflets to the car....

Today I notice he's left a hand written on his dashboard reading "Touch my Car again at your own risk I'll Effing Maime you"

What do you reckon I should do?

We've a very good residents association, they advised me to put the notes on...but I'm not keen on engaging a psycho....but maybe I am...

    ==============UPDATE/MORE INFO======================
It's a private road, so the police/council can't do anything.
He's only making access difficult for me not actually blocking me, but he does park there when other spaces are available.
Our block of flats doesn't have any deals with clampers....
Btw, I like the semtex idea but am also aware hsi car is worth £500 mine cost me £6k..I'm adverse to getting a 50p(ing)/keying...

Call a Tow truck - they'll be happy to clamp him or remove the car - cash in hand to them

Ring the cops, tell them he always parks on yellow lines, clamp him, make him pay, sorted

Totally. Don't mess with his car or else he may key yours or something. He's being an asshole, probably saving himself 2 seconds walking time.

call the tow truck, tell them he's in a no parking zone, get him removed. also ask the police what to do if he has threatened you with violence ... you are within your rights to get to YOUR assigned parking space but to have him pummel you later is not within his.

edit: or you could hunt him down and gut him like a fish

I like the 'film lines' and that's kinda how I feel...however this is real life and he may well be a nasty piece of work...certainly takes a type of person to put that sort of 'welcome' note on their car......Jeeze!

Call the council and tell them you know where someone parks on double yellows, then ask them if you can get a part time evening job as a traffic warden and keep slapping him with tickets everynight.

That or pritt stick a horses head to his bonnet

But seriously, your best bet is to contact the council, several photos off a digital camera from different nights, maybe a photo of his nice little message, all attached to an email could be a good call.

I agree, take photos with timestamps, and report him.

Carry on putting leaflets on his car, i would continue to use prittstick as its a pain to get off.

Or better still set up a webcam over looking his car, and go and have a polite chat with him. Be courtious and explain the problem. Tell him your mrs is preggers and may need t get out in a hurry. (advisable to have a mate or two around in case he gets nasty)

Any violent behaviour recieved will be recorded and can be used when u report him.

What do you reckon I should do?
I'd reply "Make another threat and I'll torch your effing car."

Of course your response has to depend on how much info you've revealed about yourself / your car.

Our block of flats doesn't have any deals with clampers.
You could always buy your own clamp. You'd lose it of course, but you may decide it's worth the expense to teach him a lesson?
A cheaper way is to let his tyres down. But remember to take the valve cores out too.
Imagine him using using a footpump to inflate the tyre, only for it to deflate the moment he disconnects the pump! He sounds like he's stupid enough to try again 2 or 3 times before working out why it's happening.

It's a pity it's a private road and therefore the double yellow lines aren't enforceable by the council or police...
I like the horses head idea!

most private flat type things have some comittee who 'run' the place. have a chat. my flats have a caretaker who will get a car towed if it is illegally parked.

failing that. buy an old banger for £10. it doesnt need an mot or owt cos its being kept off the road. park it where he likes to park. dent the doors in so as to make it easy peasy to get in and out of your garage, or maybe park it half-on the grass. job done!

I once had a lovely note left for me by someone because I'd apparently parked in "their" space. It was actually on a public road, (and nowhere near anyone's driveway or blockign anyone from driving anywhere) but it just happened to be where this guy liked to park. I actually later found out that it wasn't even outside his house.

Seriously though, make sure you get a photo of the note he's left, in case you need anything against him.

    <shameless plug> Alternatively though, you could use these: http://www.teamfishcake.co.uk/article.php?id=140 </shameless plug>

Yeah some people are just ****holes like that, when we lived in a student house the parking spaces outside our house would get taken by other people occasionally, but you weren't allowed to park across the road in front of the house opposite us. Those were their spaces, and if you parked there they'd deliberately park both their cars so that they were boxing you in. What can you do when you're dealing with total scum though?.

aeonf242 just speak to the residents association, I'm sure they'll be able to make his life difficult. At the end of the day if it's a private road then it's effectively owned by the committee (or by whoever owns the freehold of the building and grounds), so someone has a right to force him to comply with the rules even if it isn't the police or council.
