    is 90°F Reasonable?

Sitting in my office today with busted air con, Upstairs is sitting at a nice 21°C, yet while downhere we are sitting at 32°C.

Downstairs we have 8 developers and a manager, upstairs we've got 20+ people.

No more space to move people upstairs, and its also true that us developers like some silence. But sitting down in 32°C seems totally stupid, especially with 6+ fans, doors open etc etc.

Having someone out to "have a look" on thursday.

    Thoughts..

thought there were regulations that you couldnt be in an office if the temp was below or above certain temps? not sure what those temps are, but still... seems silly.

You think thats bad we hit 36°C in our sampling area, but we have to wear chemical protection suits, wellies, chemical proof long gloves, and a full face twin filter respirator. Its rather difficult to work when the sweat buids up in the front of the mask and starts running out the exhallation ports. Also had the joy yesterday of wearing a full air fed suit for 3 hours, Ooooo i hate the hot weather.

IIRC the minimum temperature for a working environment in the UK is 18ºC.
Again, IIRC, the UK is one of the very few countries, if not the only country, not to have a maximum working temperature. Guess they never expect it to get that hot here.

How long until Deckard gets wind of this and starts to complain about people complaining about the hot weather!

I'm indoors, window open, computer on, and its still cool enough in here, so I'm happy... for now.

Nothing to do with complaining about the hot weather, i'm fearing better than most in the office, but the question is 90°F reasonable when you are using your brain constantly to develop services etc.

I think minimum temperature is actually 16°C, but its correct there is no maximum legal limit.

32C is ridiculous! I wouldn't be able to work in that temperature.

The past week was nice but now it's too hot

it's freezing in my office atm..
always is though as we have to keep the server racks cool 8-)..

I don't mind it, much prefer cold to hot.. though walking out of the office at the end of the day is quite mad... can really feel the heat.
I can make friends jelous by saying things like "I'm wearing a jumper at the moment" etc. though
We cannot choose what we are.. but what are we but the sum of our choices?

Just go around naked, if they complain tell them you are prone to heat exaustion and that they will be liable unless they send you home with pay, or continue to let you work naked.

Personally, I don't think 32C is all that horrible for a workplace. Definatly not comfortable, but it probably won't kill you.

The interor of my old high school varied from 10C to 38C depending on location in the building and time of year. Thing was renovated 3 times while I was there, for a total cost of about 80 million dollars, and we never got working heat or air conditioning.

I love hot weather, dont get me wrong, but i was wearing factor 25 and got sunburnt :/ Granted i was out in midday sun, but it's now really starting to hurt :/ I was only in it for about 20mins too.

As for hot offices, i'd just tell them that i cant work in these temps, if the air con is broken, then either get someone in today to fix it or i'm going home. Its their job to keep the office environment work friendly, if you cant work, they arent doing their job

32° is riddiculously hot. I've been in similar situations and the only thing to do is ask for more ventilation/fans/ice lollies etc as I don't think there's an upper limit for temps in the UK.

Hopefully they provide cold water. Keep the fluid intake up and also take a break every 30-40 mins to go somewhere to cool off for 10-15 mins. Common sense I know but I'm always surprised at the number that don't. Or you could just faint from heat exhaustion that usually gets somethin' done!!

I used to love working at JS when it was really hot over the last summer I would judt walk into the massive chillers and pretend to do some work for 10 minutes.
