Actually, my location is a little different. I'm in Portland, OR. But, the rate I quoted is correct. Hopefully I will get a nice chunk back.

Edit: I think I figured this one out. Last week I only paid 33% in taxes. The time I paid 42% was from a paycheck that included a relocation bonus. I imagine I will get a pretty penny back when I file taxes.

It's higher here than in the US- he just has the same problem as you, in that he's been overtaxed and will have to claim it back.

But your location says Columbus, OH - why would you lie to us? Why? Why?

Welcome to the world. Life, Death and Taxes.

You are being taxed at the standard rate. The tax man takes your cash before you see it and he slyly assumes (for his benefit) that you will work a full tax year so your weekly/monthly pay cheque will not reflect the 12 weeks but 52. You will have to claim the cash back and most likely won't see the money til gone next April.

However, contact your tax office because as a student you will want to see the money before next term.

Naa, you can claim the tax back as soon as you've finished working, your local tax office should be able to sort you out, as you'll hardly be the first student in your area to be doing it..
