lol, the story linked to the other story at the end... I thought of that straight away when it said about him picking up a faint WiFi signal

Haha, I like the bit at the end. Incidentally a UK man has just been convicted for using somebody else's wireless broadband connection. Whoops.
I wouldn't trust Google maps tbh - their map of Glasgow has a large part of Great Western Rd (a major route/landmark) down as Inverquhomery Road & I believe that there are other errors in it too.
Google maps seriosuly screwed me up
Addy: the aa online one is quite good (or Autoroute Express)
nearly every macdonalds in UK has an access point for people on the move to check thier emails, does this make this illegal to use?

No, the Wi-Fi points in stores and such are usually legal. (They WANT you to use their Wi-Fi)Originally Posted by mmh
It's just when you sit outside people's houses and access their Wi-Fi network. (Which you didn't ask for permission)
I was on the train not using the internet and I found five business notebooks with their main documents shared. There were 800MB of unilevers development and finance plan along with stacks of other stuff.... why don't people protect themselves.
the main reason is that they either don't know how or they cannot be bothered.Originally Posted by Matt1eD

I presume these are notebooks supplied by their business.... not exactly great security at their business network then..... all their businesses need is a ghost of an HD which has all the necc. security or apply it all through GP
When i was on the train last week, i had left my wifi switched on (i dont normally, cos it drains battery and it's a 3 hr train ride!) Anyway, i was just faffing about in photoshop and i suddenly connect to someone's wifi! (totally unexpected as it was the middle of nowhere). I didnt use it cos i was only connected for a couple of seconds, but it wasnt *my* fault someone left their wifi open to the world! silly peoples!
i was thinking the other day
will it ever be possible to access the internet wirelessly while you are moving, say on a train?
also, it would have to be stable otherwise i would never use it
i know there is that satellite jobby, but i dont think that works if you are continually moving ? :S

That's what I was saying, Mallard GNER trains (and I think all Virgin ones) all have Wi-Fi on train (at a cost, but free in 1st class).

I've used the wifi on the malard service when they had it on free trial for a month, but it wasnt v.good. It was incredibly slow and kept dipping to speeds slower than u'd get on 56k modems.

think about it, if they broadcast wifi over the 3g network constatly every1 with a wifi connection could connect to the internet in like 98% coverage of britain.
i dont see why they dont already impliment it.
